Old Grand-Dad Bonded - This was one of the many goodies that I brought back from my Minnesota/Iowa trip. I had not been able to find this in Texas despite my best efforts. Figured given the old school status of this one that I needed to consume in an old fashioned glass vs. my usual Glencairn glass. I had heard wonderful things about this bourbon in that it was a great bang for your buck. This lived up to the hype and then some. HEAVY cinnamon and spice. Cinnamon present on the initial sip and then hits you hard again at the finish and replaces the usual burn. Very reminiscent of Old Weller Antique with the cinnamon/spice flavors. This isn't just a great buy it it's price level, it's a good grab at ANY price level. ..
So guess what ya'll! It's @amaroweek, so of course we had to make a cocktail!
This is the Bitter Smoke. If you don't know much about amaro, it is an Italian bitter liqueur. It's a combination of warm baking spices and herbals, maybe a hint of cola, citrus and mint. It's a very old world flavor, and one of our favorites!
We used @amarolucano1894 in this one. Amaro Lucano is caramel brown in color, has a bittersweet flavor, and its strength is 28% ABV. Very good with the whiskey we paired it with, as well as amaretto.
The Bitter Smoke
1.75 oz @cutspike whiskey
.75 @amarolucano1894 .50 oz amaretto
We smoked the whole cocktail with oak wood, and let the smoke perfume the drink for about 30 seconds to a minute.
Michter's Sour Mash Whiskey (courtesy of the inimitable @viceroyron) excited me. Somewhat difficult to find, and I'd heard awesome things about Michter's. The Sour Mash is neither Bourbon nor Rye, but seems to have a lot of both. I tend to have trouble with these, and the Michter's was no exception. Like with the Basil Hayden', I get overwhelmed with an alcohol taste. There's almost no flavor for me, it's just alcohol and headache. I'm not quite sure why. The Willet 3 year Rye is absolutely delicious, but these high rye combos are completely not. So, my hope is I'm just weird and you have a better experience with the Michter's Sour Mash. Let me know what you think of it. #mynameisdaveandiamaweirdo
I knew upon first glance that this would be a good lime, but I didn't know just how good. I apologise for the poor picture, it does not begin to grasp all this fruit had to offer. In the humid basement of The Liquor Store I was scrambling to grab a picture in time to soak in the performance of a few incredible bands (shout-out to Pulsing Death, Somber, and CHARMS). Unlike my usual drink choices, I decided to grab a whiskey ginger, not even thinking of the lime I would be gifted. But upon seeing the bar tender slide this slice on to my drink I knew it was time for a review. The visuals of this lime alone demanded a rating above 4. The cut was thick and symmetrical, and the pulp vesticles we're small but plump and plentiful. As I nibbled on the insides a burst of sour juice exploded in to my mouth, leaving a sweet after taste. As I passed the slice around to friends, each of their faces gave me all I needed to know about their feelings toward this lime. I am giving this lime a 4.9/5. Although I believe it maybe deserve a 5/5 I am hesitant due to how early on I would be giving out a perfect score. Thanks to the Liquor Store for this exquisite lime, it is one not to be forgotten.

When bars switch to inventorying by the drink its like found money. Under the old industry standard by "cost" they typically are losing 10% to 20 % of their product. By watching every drink sales go up invoices go down and they find more money in the bank at the end of the month. 🍺🍸🍷
