@phoneskope has been a huge game changer for us as far as filming/photographing critters goes!!
This buck was probably 2,000+ yards away, and we had a pretty decent view of him through our @vortexoptics spotting scope coupled with an iPhone 7+ and Phone Skope. Get ya one, and start filming wildlife! Head on over to www.phoneskope.com and use code Sahn at checkout to save some money!
Elk backstrap on the left... Beef rib eye on the right. Which cut do you prefer and why? My inlaws were pretty shocked to see how lean elk is compared to beef in a side by side comparison. They were also shocked when I told them that it cost me $50 for the hunting license to harvest this elk... they paid $25 for three steaks 😳 #whywedoit#ElkSteak#waybetterthanbeef
What an awesome weekend at the Sheep Show in Reno. I was in awe of so many gracious sportsmen who complimented this truly special ram. Of course nothing compares to the experience of the hunt, but attending this event was also a tremendous honor, and I'm thankful to my old friends and the new ones I met this year. I've been told this ram is the largest general season thin horn (Stone or Dall) on record with a bow. And the largest stone sheep harvested in the Yukon (with any weapon) in 50 years. What an honor to be part of the team that made it happen. Thanks to Aaron Florian and Greg Spenner at Yukon Stone. Bow-harvesting this 14 year old monarch has been a surreal experience. Sometimes I still hope I'm not dreaming. #popeandyoungbooner#fnaws#grandslam#sheephunting .
Occasionally I discuss controversial things. I've avoided this for some time but feel compelled to share. By now most of my followers know why we travel. Unfortunately we aren't like the trending community of full time camper living folks who work computer based jobs and get to choose when and where they go and fully enjoy the new places as a family. Instead my man works hard as a union laborer on the pipeline 12 hour days, 6 days a week. When he considered the job I had to do my research to see where I stood morally. I mean I love the environment so I need to be against it ... right? Well, I could take that stand but protesting should consist of more than holding a sign. For one, don't drive to the protest in a gas guzzling car because if you want to protest the end of a pipeline then you need not consume its products. Say goodbye to gas cars, grills, propane heated homes, etc etc. I realized the life we've created in America depends on these lines. Without them things would change drastically ... are you ready for those types of changes? If so, we need to go back to what is now called homesteading but without the use of a tractor because they use gasoline. See, this particular job has been riddled with protesters, as they come and go and my husband comes home with the latest antics I have seen the other side through his eyes. Like the day the protesters were caught unloading bags of trash, strewing it about, taking pictures and promptly uploading them to social media outlets proclaiming the workers were destroying the land in more ways than one. They didn't know there were security and that their childish antics did not slip under the darkness of night without proof. Today they have planned to protest again. It's not always peaceful, some of the men's trucks have been intentionally damaged in the past, they warned them today that they claim to be peaceful but often times a few get caught up in the moment and act stupid. So today I'll keep my man and his crew in extra prayer for their safety. Today I'm reminded that not everything is as it seems, we have to choose to look at all sides to see the whole picture.
All smiles at 4 am once we reached the truck with half of the meat. It wasn’t a cake walk, but we had fun and tried to keep a positive attitude, even though we were both physically and mentally drained. Can it be September again, yet???

This little guy was dumped at the shelter flea-ridden and matted beyond recognition, we saved him on the day he was scheduled to be euthanized. It was such a joy to foster him for a few weeks. And he was adopted today!! (And apparently is all tuckered out) His new family got him a bigger bed btw, but he prefers to do this. #dexterfoundation#rescuedogsofinstagram#happytails#happyendings#whywedoit
