A year ago, we woke up early. Well really, we were cold all night in our tiny $20 tent, with maybe a couple hours of bad sleep, so we decided to get going with the first light available. We were hiking for a good two hours in the shade of the Mount Robson, stepping over frozen puddles, my hands and feet were incredibly cold. We kept walking. Finally, the sun rose high enough to send its warmth into the valley. Instant relief.
Update: Maddie's first Wilderness Wednesday was kind of a disaster - there were so many mosquitoes (and, consequently, mosquito bites) that the whole class was sent to the nurse's office! Maddie even got one near her eye, poor thing. However, for this week's Wilderness Wednesday we prepared: bug spray, sunscreen, thicker layers the bugs couldn't bite through, tall socks and a light scarf, topped off with a baseball cap. And there were no bug bites! These photos are from her teacher.🍃🍂🍁 When I was in elementary school, I wanted so badly to get outside for recess right away and just feel the sun on my face that I wouldn't eat lunch. After a while, a para had to sit with me in the cafeteria to make sure I would eat! So the idea that Maddie has a day of school each week that is completely outdoors is like this opportunity I never had. In Germany and Norway, forest kindergartens are really common, and we have some forest schools in Minnesota as well. I am thrilled that Maddie is getting this chance to spend longer stretches of time outdoors. Kids and nature just seem right together. They can't bounce off the walls if we take the walls away. 🌲🌲🌲 #wildernesswednesday#forestschool#minnstagramers#naturekids#udeskole#childhoodunplugged#waldkindergarten#outdooreducation#forestkindergarten
hi I went to Colorado a month ago and never posted any pictures and now I am avoiding responsibilities so here's 3! and a little appreciate post for this guy who hates photos and doesn't have an Instagram but who I love a lot!!! #wildernesswednesday ?
Y'all is it really autumn already?? I think in Montana it might be happening. I went for a hike yesterday and leaves were yellow, orange and red! And snow is in the forecast this weekend! #mixedemotions 🍁🍂🍄
Wilderness Wednesday! Can't believe this is my neighborhood park. Love Folsom. My tip for today (which I need to take my own advice more often) ... is to just get outside. Even if you are not an "outdoorsy" person or you live in the city or its 20 degrees out, I totally believe when we make space in our day (or at least our weekly routine!) to breathe in fresh air, stress will melt away. Maybe not all of it. But a lot of it. Just this one trip to the park was the soul-lifter I needed this week! 🌳❤️
Turns out early morning is not the time to get the iconic photo of this place. But I've still never seen anything like it. I think the early alarm clock and the short hike was still worth it. #grandprismaticspring#yellowstonepledge
