How can you not love Platypus? These animals have baffled the scientific world since the late 1700's. Monotremes (egg-laying mammals) have been around for about 200 million years and they show both reptilian and mammalian characteristics. These guys lay two eggs at a time and the young suckle from mammary glands. I have been lucky enough to have seen quite a few during my last couple of weeks in Tasmania and I am hoping to see some young ones during my remaining time here!
With a beautiful Leopard crossing the open valley, heading towards a gorge, we were concerned that she would disappear to not be seen again. Instead, she began to call out, looking impatiently along the ridge. Eventually, we were treated to a beautiful sight, with her young cub bounding into view and greeting her. ⠀
