Not all hikes are easy, and it's not always the land that makes it difficult. My son has a sensory processing disorder and it changes the way I prepare for the trail. He is very sensitive to heat and injury. He has had full blown meltdowns because, "the bugs [cicadas] are too loud!" You might notice in this picture he has no shorts on. Let me tell you, keeping underwear on was enough of a challenge. You see, this was Willis Creek Slot Canyon. We were hiking in a river. He loved it! But his pants got wet and he had several crying moments of him trying to take off ALL of his clothes. To avoid a disastrous meltdown, we ditched the shorts. It was a compromise, one he has really outgrown. He will be 5 this fall. We each have challenges that others may not see or know about. Be kind to each other and to yourself. Peaceful wandering. #williscreekslotcanyon
Home. The car is unpacked and put away, we are all clean and the kids are in bed. 😴 Now I get to look through all the pictures I took. I am so excited to share them with you! Bryce Canyon National Park is BEAUTIFUL!! I'm going to be sharing some highlights from our trip and must sees. 🏜 #williscreekslotcanyon
"Hear me roar", Liliana said. Sometimes you can hear her miles away echoing between the mountains. We have been fortunate to travel and visit extraordinary places. I am glad I made the step to move to Utah four years ago. If we stayed in New York, life would have been dull.
When Mike suggested we hike a slot canyon, at first I was bewildered. Wtf is a slot canyon? But once I understood, my face lit up like a kid at Christmas. After perusing some blogs, we settled on Willis Creek Slot Canyon for our first venture. It was mesmerizing! We trekked a few miles thru a red clay creek in between towering walls of varying widths apart with colors and patterns changing constantly. I would highly recommend this type of adventure to anyone who hasn't experienced it.
