How do you tune in? 
I think back to when I would drink multiple cups of coffee a day just to stay awake during the day. I've talked about being a recovered workaholic before and part of that was eliminating communication with my body's cry for help. Now if I need an up, I switch to herbal blends, matcha, or a mushroom coffee. I also follow my cycle through the "My Flo" app by @floliving to help me determine what is going on with my phases of my cycle. I adjust my foods and supplements accordingly, and voila, I feel much better.

Did you know that having an unstable blood sugar level affects your hormonal balance, and can affect how your skin looks, how your digestion is and how regular your menstruation is? 
I did not know how big of an impact this actually had on my body. But I'm currently reading the book WomanCode and learning all about menstruation, women's cycles and so much more. And one of the biggest take-aways I've got from the book so far is to keep a regular blood sugar level. And how do you do that? 
By eating healthy, nourishing food and making sure that there doesn't go too many hours between your food intake, otherwise you will get a very low blood sugar level, which affects your entire body. 
So just a little tip for you - eat regularly and fill your body with delicious, healthy food! 🌿

I love thanksgiving because it is a time where our mindsets change to what we are thankful for instead of things we don’t have. This is the first thanksgiving starting new tradition with my fiancé and pups of hiking and getting movement before our big FEAST 🍂🍗

The good news is God grants us His peace through His Holy Spirit, for that I am thankful.  I can choose hope despite my circumstances.

When Summer’s just around the corner the Melbourne sunshine has made the spinach grow gigantic 😍💚🙌🏼 After finishing reading The Woman Code by Alissa Vitti on my holiday, I've been really inspired and determined to work on my diet and lifestyle to find the right balance and flow that works best for me. 
With a few areas of my health and lifestyle functioning sub-optimally to what I’d like right now, I can’t get the saying “you can’t keen doing the same thing and expecting a different result” out of my mind. So it’s time to mix things up a little! This means experimenting, being more mindful and resourceful and adventurous with my diet, tuning in more to what my body is trying to tell me, and giving it what it needs rather than simply what I think it wants. 
I’m seriously so lucky to be able to walk out my front door and have a plethora of organic, home grown fruit and veggies in our garden (my parents are horticulturalists, btw 😎). This inspires me so much to use what’s available to me, and to eat what’s in season at the moment. I’ve slowly been playing with cycle-syncing with relation to balancing my hormones, and I’m really looking forward to seeing where it takes me on my new PCOS journey. Hope to share some more of it with you guys!! 😌🤗😙

During ovulation, I say yes to a lot of social stuff, I feel insanely connected to people and sex is definitely on the radar. If you normally need a lot of warm up during the other phases, then this is your chance to move things a little faster because your body is a big green light for play. .
There's good lubrication, your body is warm and you may be turning your head twice to get a better look at someone (or them at you!)

If intercourse is going to happen and you don't want a bebe crying in your arms in 9 months time then use protection. My favourite is condoms because they don't cause any hormonal imbalance and have a compelling success rate.

Digestion and absorption issues are becoming more of the norm these days. Why is this an issue? When our bodies cannot properly break down food, we become deficient in vitamins/minerals which creates dis-ease. One reason for these impairments can be inadequate mastication or not CHEWING food 🧐 it goes back to the busy lifestyles we live and we shove food down to feel full and go back to our days without thinking if we actually absorbed all those yummy nutrients.

Practicing the isolateral movements helps increase symmetry of strength between both sides of the body minimizing variance in flexibility and strength between each side as well as engage the core for body stability during exercises. Increasing the sets in this workout and the supersets are sure to leave your shoulders feeling great the next day😉 try it, it’s a good one i promise! 
1. 5x12 lateral raise superset 5x10 flat bench hex press 
2. 4x10 Cable Flys

3. 4x15 Cable Front Raise superset Ez bar front raise 4x8-10

4. Hammer strength isolateral chest press  10 reps both arms, 5 reps right side, 5  reps left side. Repeat 3x

5. Isolateral Hammer strength shoulder  press 4x5 per side 
Finish off with Ab circuit- slow bicycles 20 reps, plank as long as possible, side plank left, side plank right, 10 reverse crunches. Repeat 3x

-Zucchini cakes that the lovely @deannka4 showed me how to make. Zucchini, yellow onion, carrot, and a bit of ghee :) salt, pepper, and I added some gram masala for spice -yummy
- freshly baked gluten free, vegan sandwich loaves! The @glutenfreebakingacademy has been a life changer- I can finally eat sandwiches again! Or smear homemade slow cooked organic apple butter with spice bush berry on it, OR dip it in black locust Illinois rose hip honey, OR have a breakfast egg sandwich( can you tell I'm excited !:) -Sunchokes sautéed in ghee ( more on these power tubers in a bit) -Arugula on everything 🌱💖 -Fire Roasted Thai Chillies, cuz I like a bit of heat

Today I worked out because I WANTED to go to the gym and lift. Not because of guilt, not because it was just a part of a routine I had to follow, and not because someone told me to go. I did it for ME. I have not had that feeling in SO long. I get it, not everyday will be this day but i use to be extremely passionate about going to the gym 5-6 days a week, it made all days good, and losing that for a bit sucked. That’s what anxiety can do to you. But damn going today because I finally felt so excited to go not only felt great mentally but also gave me the most kick ass workout I’ve had in a long time. I had the best #shouldersunday and I am so so thankful for that as I sit here tonight and reflect on today. Do what makes you happy, be in the moment, do not do things out of guilt. If you need a mental break and just go with what feels right in the moment do that instead. It’s okay to not have the “no days off” mentality, it’s actually healthy! Our bodies need time off physically and mentally to recover and function at their best. So happy Sunday friends, I hope you have a great week and do what makes you happy and embrace this holiday season that’s coming ❤️

 Whipped these mini muffins up , after my sister complained that my recipes are too complicated & contained to many stuff nobody have in their pantries. ...Soz guys , sometimes I get so wrapped up in all the cool superfood stuff I have collected over time that I forget to stick to the basics for those of you that aren't happy bakers.😅

Why the heck mini ? Well , cause they just look cute + I can eat 2 ... tricking myself in thinking I had more.😏 BUTT if you have a little more self control than me , go ahead and bake them in 12 big muffins. 🌈

• EASY SWEET POTATO BLENDER MUFFINS•
• 1 cup sweet potato, mashed
• 2 cups oat flour *
• 1 cup almond milk , unsweetened
• 2-3 tbsp sweetner (xylitol)
• 1 tbsp baking powder
• pinch of salt
• 1 tsp cinnamon
• 6 tbsp nut butter ( cashew @ohmega_nutbutters)
• 1 flax egg ( 2 tbsp flax seeds , 6 tbsp water) .
* oat flour = blend oats until flour forms & certified GF if you're gluten intolerant. Otherwise most oats are naturally GF , just packed in factory that may contain traces of gluten.

PROTEIN FROSTING ( OPTIONAL)
• 2 scoops  vanilla protein
• 1 tsp sweetner ( my protein already contains sweetner )
• 1 Tbsp nut butter
•  almond milk 
1. Mix everything in the blender until smooth. 
2. Scoop into prepared muffin tray.  Pop in oven at 180 ° C for 25 - 30 min . 
3. Cool down in tray for 10min before taking out. 
4. Mix frosting in small bowl by adding milk to other ingredients until a  batter forms. Top muffins with frosting and enjoy.
5. When serving the next day pop in micro for 5 secs before eating. .

I've got some very great persimmons AND some very great news, a celebratory follow up to the post about my PCOS struggles from a few days ago... 🌑✨🌙 My period finally arrived after taking its sweet, sweet time (77 days, to be exact), and it happened on the second day of the cycle-supporting series of Chinese herbs from @spirit_centered_acupuncture! 🤘🙏🙌👏 I'm currently curled up on the couch with a warm little dog on my abdomen, some @budbrothersapothecary CBD tea, and, though I'm feeling pretty beat down today, I'm over the (new) moon that I could be on the right track towards healing my hormones. 🌚 Thanks to everyone who recommended @floliving's Woman Code, I'm about half way through and really excited about all of her nutrition and lifestyle recommendations. Ahhhh finally back at it on this fine Friday evening 🖤🖤 I’ve had a terrible sinus infection and cough for two weeks. So with horrible breathing, exhaustion, and body aches i finally felt good enough tonight to ease back into it! It felt SO good to get moving again tonight-don’t take those healthy days for granted y’all. Seems so cliché and simple but when you’re down you realize how great simple healthy days are. I hope you all had a great week and have a great weekend! Remember to be grateful and seek a spirit of joy in your day to day life. 👈🏼 things I’m learning through my counseling and reading that really help with anxiety/depression funks that have been helping ☀️. Eased back into working out again with the following workout-
•single leg dumbbell deadlifts 3x12
•Bosu Ball squats 2x12, last set #3 burnout reps. Try to make it to at least 20. Superset with bosu ball planks
•Cable glute kickbacks 3x12
•split squats 3x10 per leg
•15 min cardio

The last 24 hours have been crazy. 😳I had a doctor appointment yesterday afternoon, which concluded in my primary care regular old conventional doctor wanting to do all the tests I've been wanting to do for MONTHS. It was a huge praise! The more amazing thing is that I was able to do ALL. OF. THEM. this morning in like less than 2 hours. 🙌🏻 I don't have any results yet, but hopefully once they come back in a few days we will have some answers or at least be getting closer to some answers. In the meantime I'm super grateful! 💗✨And hooray for more blood work! 🙈👊🏻

Dit boek kreeg ik van @dorienijtsma voor m'n verjaardag en het is echt super interessant, het gaat over het hormoonstelsel en hoe je dat balanceert. Voor mij als voedingsdeskundige natuurlijk om te smullen, en om dingen op te frissen, dat zal ik altijd blijven doen. Maar ook als je simpelweg interesse hebt in gezond leven, is dit boek eigenlijk een must... En helemaal als je denkt dat er iets uit balans is. Since there is no @la_carnita in #ygk I had to get creative to try to replicate it - I’ll call this the “In Cod We Trust” bowl - base of quinoa, kale and ground flax dressed in apple cider vinaigrette -beet sauerkraut -avocado with hemp seeds - scotch bonnet hot sauce - fresh cilantro -cod! Seasoned with allspice, cinnamon, avocado oil and miso paste and broiled on high 
Not exactly the same as the beloved taco that I love - but an incredibly delicious and healthy lunch bowl that was satisfying and nourishing

Ok, real talk: I just opened one of the scariest letters I’ve received in a LONG time. My smear test results came back and I tested positive for HPV and for abnormal cervical cells, which means I have to go for a colposcopy (an examination of my cervix where a small sample of tissue is removed) 💕

I’d love to say that I was totally chill as I opened this letter but nah - I freaked the fuck out 😬 And that’s ok. It’s important to feel your feelings. And any letter that mentions “cancer” is legit going to make even the strongest of people have a wobbly moment y’know? 🤷🏻‍♀️

But after freaking out, I decided to check in with my inner circle (the babes in my life who I’m closest to) and was reminded that one of my friends went through the same thing recently. In fact lots of women have HPV and abnormal cervical cells, and lots of women go through colposcopies. 4 in 10 women who have one will have a normal result, 6 in 10 will have an abnormal result and an abnormal result doesn’t mean cancer 💖

So why am I sharing this? Two reasons:
1. If you haven’t had your smear yet or haven’t had one for a while BOOK THE FUCK IN! I promise you they don’t hurt and even though receiving a letter like this is scary, it’s better to know these things sooner rather than later.
2. This is scary shit and the scariest thing is feeling like it’s just you. We gave a lot of cultural shame in talking about our wombs, we have a lot of fear of talking openly about the experiences we’re going through in case we’re seen as attention seeking, we get told that we should cope and not worry and we call cancer “the c word”. The more of us who are able to talk openly about things that are VERY NORMAL but very scary, the more women won’t have to feel as though they’re the only ones dealing with this shit. If you’re going through this right now, you are not alone and I’m here for you 💕💖💕

There’s a third reason too - I’m scared. This is some scary shit and I know that the more open I am, the less power that fear can have over me. The darkness will always disappear when we turn a light on it 💫

Ladies, right before and sometimes during your period, you feel like indulging in allll the sugary and starchy foods to give you comfort and feed those impossible cravings, amiright? I know it’s tempting and I know it feels like you need those foods to nourish yourself, but what your body really needs is true nutrients. That beautiful bod of yours needs fuel that will sooth and support your uncomfortable symptoms. Your body is craving iron during your period as you are losing lots of it as you shed your uterine lining, so load up on foods like spinach, seaweed and chlorophyll (in extract form dropped into water and sipped is great). Make sure to get plenty of omega-3’s to help stabilize your hormones and your mood. Sardines, wild salmon and grass-fed beef are all wonderful options. Get plenty of good quality protein in like pasture raised eggs, the fatty fish specified above, and lentils (also high in iron). Go light on starchy carbohydrates like breads and pastas to help keep blood sugar levels stable during this time. If you have digestive issues during your period (🙋🏼), go light on or avoid raw vegetables all together. Focus on cooked veggies instead as they are easier to digest for their cell walls have been broken down during cooking. This is the time during your cycle for extreme self care. Go easy on yourself, rest plenty, drink lots of liquids, focus on very gentle exercise (or none at all if that’s what your body needs), and feed yourself supremely well. Desde de sempre, desde da menarca, que me pergunto de onde vem tanto sintoma? - desde dores de cabeça, falta de energia, hipoglicemia, cólicas (vindas do além) e por aí vai… Claro que a resposta está na alimentação. A Minha primeira mudança alimentar, foi aquela que toda gente faz, começar a comer pão integral e achar que todos os nossos problemas ficarão resolvidos… São que não! Então, à cinco anos, depois de ler sobre o sistema endocrino, decidi mudar a minha alimentação. - a informação é muito importante, quanto mais informados somos mais conscientes nos tornamos em relação ao que comemos. Nestes últimos cinco anos, eliminei alguns alimentos da minha dieta e introduzi outros e assim consegui eliminar muitos dos sintomas. Uma das mudanças mais recentes foi deixar de comer glúten, o que me levou a tomar a decisão de evitar o glúten, foi uma experiência de 30 dias sem glúten. O foco era o intestino, perceber se notava alguma alteração no funcionamento do mesmo. Só que grande diferença, que observei, foi no meu ciclo menstrual. E foi isso que me levou a ler o livro da, holistic health coach, Alisa Vitti @floliving , “WomanCode”. (deixei o link na bio de um video da google onde ela fala sobre o livro.)
Isto tudo porque existem muitas mulheres que sofrem com as mais variadas condições, desde endometriose, TPM, ciclos menstruais irregulares, PCOS, infertilidade, depressão, acne, mudanças de humor, dores de cabeça e cólicas severas, menopausa, e etc… (a lista é infinita) E uma mundança alimentar podia fazer todo a diferença. É muito importante ficarmos atentas aos sinais do corpo e nunca aceitar nada como normal ou natural, até porque pode ser comum, mas não é normal. E até pode existir uma droga qualquer que camufla os sintomas mas não trata… Não desprezem os vossos sintomas, procurem informação e alguém em quem confiem que vos possa orientar.

I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). I’ve had it since I was a young teen. Since I was 17 I’ve been taking synthetic hormones to control it. For 10 years I’ve been wearing a bandaid. For 10 years I haven’t liked how I feel. I’ve tried so many brands, and have paid out the ass for the one brand that sucks the least. When I had to try a provider preferred brand, I gained 13lbs in three months, while exercising regularly and eating healthily. If left untreated, PCOS runs the risk of cancer, heart disease, fertility problems, diabetes, and spontaneous combustion. Synthetic hormones carry similar risks. But, what if taking meds isn’t the only way to treat it? Starting now, I’m trying a holistic approach to treating my PCOS. I’m learning about my endocrine system, and how the ways I treat and feed my body contribute to hormone production. I want to see if through a thorough understanding of myself, providing my organs with what they need throughout the month, and seeing my issue as a part of the whole, if I can get off and stay off synthetic hormones. Part 3: Sex in your cycle
FOLLICULAR phase.

Oh yeah, when you're in your follicular phase it's like spring! I always feel this lightness kick in when I stop bleeding as my energy levels rise for creativity, connection and libidinous endeavors! This phase always sees me become a far more chilled out problem solver. What does that mean for sex? It's the primo time of your cycle to try NEW things. 
New skills, new positions, new places, new breathwork, new toy, new role. Basically, you're most open to learning, experimenting and exploring and this trifecta is going to create your portal to shifting your sex life. My guiding question in this phase is: what can I learn? It de-personalises everything just a little bit so you can potentially avoid the downward spiral that powerlessness and worthlessness take you down. 
So, try something new. Try snuggling for just a moment longer (yup, stay in the mess), try a new time of day (even 8pm over 10pm), try giving yourself permission to take more time with your arousal or to make a little bit more eye contact.

I don't have enough time right now to write a long update, but I started the candida diet on Friday, which is basically paseo but with a few more specific guidelines about fruit & sweeteners. I'm going in for blood work tomorrow to see where my thyroid is at, based on symptoms I'm guessing still low & if that's the case we'll up my medication. I'm doing a specific routine with supplements & some essential oils to help with the candida & my liver. Today I did a ton of food prep, including this homemade almond butter! Its so easy to make & my new obsession! 😋💁🏼

Whether you are dealing with chronic illness of any sort or trying to prevent it, learning to pause in today’s society is so important. We need to stop being hard on ourselves for “taking a break” and feeling “unproductive”. When you feel that overdrive in your body and tension start to hit, take time to pause by doing acts of self-care, deep breathing, walking, or anything that resets you and IS NOT on your to-do list. Second challenge is do these pause moments before you feel yourself in overdrive!! This is when the real magic happens as you keep your cortisol levels down.

Although eating important, proper supplementation, etc is very important in healing, resting your mind&soul can have outstanding benefits to your health, especially practiced small amounts over long periods of time! Let’s change society and show it is okay to rest 😴
