The past couple months have been an amazing experience of experimentation & learning on Instagram.
I've found that so much of my personal growth journey (as Mom, wife, friend, author & business woman) mirrors social media: getting out there, finding voice, style, rhythm, and comfort zone. Is this the case for you?
Daily, I committed myself to regular postings and to simply "show up." I've been looking to attract and connect with others who resonate with my message & brand.
The message is this: PRESENCE. Whatever you are doing, wherever you are & whatever your ambitions: it's totally okay to be EXACTLY WHERE YOU ARE.
Stepping forward with presence of mind, body & spirit. Yup, even online & yup, esp. on social media.
Can you be present with yourself & others w/o judgement, criticism & envy?
Rather than running the "mean talk" routine in your head, can you live with compassion, acceptance & generosity (with yourself, 1st & foremost?). How quickly can you turn channels to more positive & empowering thoughts?
Rather than finding a cookie cutter solution, I wanted to be present to this journey.
Rather than adding metrics simply to stack the numbers and look good, I opted for a more organic approach: find those who authentically resonate.
It has been interesting to watch & experience the various approaches to friend & follow. I'm learning immensely & continue to do so!
I am grateful for those who are staying the course with me.
Thank You, friends! "Yippee!!" for the budding of relationships that are not simply worthy of business, but even more so, for those worthy of a deeper connection: one that is from the heart. Namaste ❤️
~swipe~ Boss is as boss does ✔️ @duka_jules took her passion for textiles and patterns and co-founded @dukashop, creating the most incredible, upcycled, gorgeous, responsible clothing and accessories in the fairest setting. Jules wanted to see something done right, so she went out, grabbed a friend, and they did it themselves. Let's all be like Jules. Big publishers, small presses, self-publishing, indie publishing... if you've written a book or are thinking about it, there are a lot of options out there vying for your attention (and money). Elly will cut through the confusion, with an engaging talk about the current state and future of book publishing.
* How to navigate the publishing landscape
* The all-important art of title development
* The best way to pitch and sell your book to a publisher, agent, or readers
You'll never look at a book the same way again. There'll be plenty of opportunities for questions. No need to have a book or idea for one to attend, but if you do, please come prepared with a (timed!) 5-second pitch.
Hosted by Tokeativity & Project Object. Peruse the shop after the workshop and receive a special discount on all Project Object items.
In 2013, I graduated with my Bachelor's degree and had been accepted to Boston University's MFA program in Film & Television Studies with a Dean's scholarship and a paid teaching assistantship. From the moment I hit the ground in Boston, the experience was 80% trash. I struggled to adapt to the iciness of the city (dual meaning there), I was underwhelmed by the material of the course for which I TA'd, I couldn't quite connect with my peers, and I was working hard AF and still painfully broke. It was nearing the end of the semester and I had a feeling I wasn't going to be asked back to TA for the spring, which meant a huge chunk of my funding would be cut. I remember calling my mom and wearily exhaling "I want to come home." .
In the moment, I thought I'd failed. I thought I was letting people down and prematurely ending my journey to being a top media studies scholar. I sunk into a weighty guilt of feeling like I'd given up. .
That "failure" was the best decision I've ever made. Not only did I learn how to throw some shit away in pursuit of my peace of mind, but I learned how liberating it can be to press delete in life and choose a new adventure. I love that failure now. That failure taught me what suffering looks like and how renewal feels. I learned who I was not in that moment and began discovering who I could be. And I know that I am better than I would have been had I stayed. #FailBig
