I was 12 years old when you started to affect me. When I got my first period I didn’t know that it wasn’t normal to lose so much blood. I would fill a pad (and I mean FILL) every 2 hours. I spent many days each month home from school, staring at the wall or ceiling and crying from pain. I remember vomiting from nausea and feeling so much pain through my abdomen and back. I was bedridden for days with you, my tears and my prayers as company.⠀
You made me hate my body, Endometriosis. It didn’t feel fair, all this pain. I didn’t know why other people never complained about pain during their period. Why could they still play sport? Why didn’t they need days off? I wondered whether I was just weaker than them. You made me see my body as a vehicle of failure.⠀
I didn’t want to admit defeat to you, Endometriosis. I am such a capable and intelligent person, and I pushed through the pain and sickness to get through each day. I got my degrees, and post graduate degrees, managed departments and excelled. I got the man of my dreams, and fell in love in spite of you...."⠀

Day 5: Finances
Car registration, text books, rent, petrol- the bills don't stop when yo are a student.
We understand that it can often seem overwhelming to juggle your Degree, job and social life!
If the thought of your finances is beginning to stress you out its time to stop, breathe and look at breaking down areas which you can control.
Our advice: Control your Controllable's
1) Alcohol: Going out becuase it's uni night and drinks are cheap still means you're going out! Now we're not saying to eliminate your social life, but trading every second drink for a glass of water is great for the liver and the bank account.
2) Rather than driving around and paying for a park on campus, park a few blocks away in a side street. Incedental exercise is the best kind
3) Make your food at home rather than buying from a cafeteria. Not only can you make more nutritious choices, but you'll save on cash too.
Focus on the small day to day things to you can control. Eliminate the extra expenses in your life that are causing the extra headaches you don't need.
I haven't posted a meal prep photo in a longtime! So here's what's planned this week 🍴

💦 I normally drink at least 100 oz of water a day
These poses may seem simple and static but there is so much going on beneath the surface. In the first pose alone, Virasana, I am pushing my palms up, drawing my shoulders back and down, drawing my belly button in toward my spine to avoid arching the low back, rooting my tailbone down, and pressing the tops of my feet, including each toe, down to maintain alignment in my feet, legs, and hips, lengthening through my spine, particularly through my cervical spine, and maintaining an even pace of breath. There is so much to observe and explore, and this is all within the first few breaths of my practice! It is so fascinating to me how much our bodies can teach us when we ask them to do something and then shut up and listen. Explore, explore, explore, there is so much to learn. #explorewithinretreat
- it may sound really dumb to people, but I have always been the girl that was shaped like a pencil. Literally straight up and down until I got about 17 and I got boobs and that was it. I had no booty, like at all and then bam I have our son and I got a little booty and I have been building from there. I spent so many years pushing, shoving, trying so hard, hating my body, never making the grade. The comfort I knew was in the form of food in my face. It could have been Sex, shopping, drinking, a dramatic life, cutting others down, busying myself to overwhelm and exhaustion. Heck yeah, maybe at times I "used" them all. Regardless of what I used to distract me from me, my soul longed for freedom. Then things began to change. I began to breath. I began to slow down and sit with myself even if at times it was hard as heck. I began to feel what was inside and get curious about myself, my thoughts, my "beliefs". Love for myself began to grow and soon self care and healthy living were desired driven by love for myself and how great it made me feel. I want this love, this peace for you! 💖 You are so deserving of the rest!! 💖Life does not have to be a constant fight. Success does not have to be exhausting. I promise you. There is freedom!
Sometimes it is hard to know if you are heading in the right direction. A journey of a 1000 miles begins with a single step😎

Another super "simple" core exercise suitable for all levels of fitness including expecting mummas*
Things to remember - 💙 Keep your back nice and flat with the wall, this means tilting your pelvis forward so you get rid of the round in your back. This will help you to engage your lower core muscles which are the ones you are targeting here. 💙 Slow and controlled, you want you use your core muscles to control the leg movement, not the leg itself. 💙 The positioning of your feet will determine how difficult or easy the exercise is. Be mindful of your balance, you could also to this exercise seated on a tall chair. 💙 Breathe - Use the breath to help with engaging your pelvic floor.

5 things about today...1) Ciao from Firenze! We successfully completed our Cultural Introduction to Italy field experience course, and have safely arrived in Florence where we will spend the remaining six weeks of our #WomensHealth research program; 2) I absolutely loved our week of adventures, but my feelings were set free as soon as I exited the van in Florence. My ❤ is so happy; 3) This picture of my apartment does not do the beauty justice. I am staying in the most refreshing, lovely loft apartment on Via Delle Belle Donne (aka the Street of the Beautiful Women). @FUAFlorence spoiled me with this absolutely perfect living space for a "champagne personality;" 4) I loved being greeted by the many #FUA colleagues I ran into today. So many smiles, hugs, and kisses. These embraces in front of my students further showcased the mutual respect and admiration between us, and Purdue and FUA. Enjoying coffee, sweets, and a selfie with Chiara was the perfect arrival protocol; and 5) Prosecco 🍾🍾. #SexInTheCitaly#PurdueFUA
