I love learning ✍️ about wine almost as much as I enjoy drinking it! It helps even more when the teacher is thoroughly passionate about their subject matter. This seminar was part of @nzwineeurope entitled different shades of Pinot, delivered by @petermccombie It was a great introduction to Pinot and just some of it’s many varieties, colours (white, rose and red) and clones. 🍷 🍷 🍷
The wine pictured here, with my hastily scribbled notes underneath is The Elder Pinot Noir 2014 from Martinborough. 🇳🇿 This was a wonderful wine which evolved beautifully in the glass throughout the session. To begin with, too tight, unyielding however as it unfurled......! Lots of sour cherry, plum, 🍒 sweet and savoury spices, blackberry leaves, soft earthy forest floor 🌳. It was a beautiful tension between fruitiness and savoury. It had a good refreshing acidity, with fine elegant tannins. I felt it could perhaps benefit from a few more years in the bottle, but I thoroughly enjoyed it without! #nzwine#theelder#pinot#pinotnoir#redwine#wine#wset#winelover#wines#newzealandwine#newzealandpinotnoir#winetasting#learningaboutwine#wineporn#winelife#winefordays#martinborough#winestagram#instawine#cheers
Meyer-Näkel - Spätburgunder “Sonnenberg” 2012
Not our usual pinot but i really enjoy this more “vigorous” style as well. Discovered good German pinots last year and we will happily drink a bottle once in a while. It’s kind of a mix between a Burg and a Morgon, if that makes sense...

Big and petrolly on the nose, then a sumptuous mix of fruit flavours - lime, yellow stone fruit, honey, orange peel - the 20 g/L giving this single vineyard Riesling wonderful balance and the perfect spot between sweet and off dry. Crisp acidity on the finish completes the package.

Have you tried GlenWood Vineyards’ innovative wine pairing yet? Six wines paired with six paired menu options are presented on this beautiful tasting palette. After tasting, one dish is chosen for lunch, accompanied by the paired wine.
Here are the basics of wine series... 🍷 where you can get a glimpse of what is wine and experiment my infographics .
First session is all about wine & climate. Basically wine regions are categorized under cool & warm climate. Altitude, latitude and ocean currents are the 3 main factors that determine a wine region's climate type. This being said you can learn some of these wine regions and general characteristics of wines by swiping right ➡
Winemaker, Matt Kilby is a rising star within the Australian state of Victoria. With over 600 wineries, Victoria has more wine producers than any other Australian wine-producing state. In 2017, Matt's inaugural vintage of @whistleandhopewines Riesling was awarded a silver medal at the Victorian Wine Show in what was described as a strong class.
Matt's road to becoming a winemaker began in 2007 when he worked as a vintage cellar hand at a winery in Victoria. In 2015, following his graduation from Charles Sturt University, Matt fulfilled a long-held dream and traveled to Germany to work a vintage in Mosel. While there, Matt immersed himself in the winemaking culture and deepened his love for his hero-variety, Riesling. Upon his return, he acquired prime Riesling grapes and produced his first vintage Riesling last year.
Matt’s approach to winemaking is to keep things simple. He believes in minimal intervention and respects the fruit he is working with. An approach that has resulted in a beautiful wine which reflects its place of origin and honors the grape variety.
Matt has recently accepted a position as Winemaker with a family owned winery in the beautiful Alpine Valley region in North East Victoria. While he is greatly anticipating the new challenges this role will present him, he plans to continue to nurture his fledging label as it quickly develops its own loyal following.
