-It's been a few days since I actually had time for my own practice. Hectic work schedules and other demands took over me these past two days and I was a hot mess to say the least. Sometimes we have to remember to stop & breathe. And know that in the end everything will be alright.

Announcing May's challenge #UntangleMe ! 🌀 think of this as a 28-day ‘twister game’ or a ‘spring cleanser’. Throughout this month we’re going to work on a number of backbends, hip openers, arm balances, standing poses, inversions, that will improve not just your flexibility but it’ll help you detoxify, massage some inner organs, deepen your breathing range, help cleanse the nervous system, rest the mind and make you feel more calmed, rejuvenated and centered. As usual, some poses, especially towards the end, might be outside our ‘comfort zone’, to challenge our brains, stimulate, help us grow and keep us humble. Some others, you’ll find useful and I welcome you to incorporate them in your personal practice, so you constantly tweak/readjust it, like you were making a suit that feels like a second skin. Every day I’ll offer variations as well as a thorough explanation on how to get there, what to work on, visualizations, tips and ideas to try, regardless of your skill level. Only an eager mind is required, the rest will come with time and #practice !! As usual:

When I opened up my "A Sentence A Day" book last night, the question was, "What do you like about your body?"
I started going through every little part of my body to try and find one thing that I think looks good.
I am so conditioned to worry myself with how I look, how I am perceived by others and whether my body measures up to what society tells us is beautiful.
So when I caught myself judging the shit out of how my body looks, I realised I could have interpreted the question in a totally different way.
What do I like about my body?
I like that she can walk, run, swim, dance, sing, sleep, digest, heal, prep me for growing another human every month and that she can take me on adventures.
I like that she has a beating heart - the pulse, a constant hum of energy that is the soundtrack to my life.
I like all the memories we've shared, battling tough tests that life has thrown at us.
I like that she is completely unique and completely perfect in all her imperfections.
Of course, there are days when we don't get along. There are days when we hate each other. But that's all part of our journey through life. No relationship is disagreement-free.
So to everything and everyone that tells us we need to look a certain way or be a certain shape or size, I say 🖕🏼
Let us LOVE out bodies unconditionally and quit worrying about what they look like. Let us be whole-heartedly grateful for what our bodies can do, feel and know. Let us treat them with respect, always.

It was arm balances that first attracted me to developing a yoga practice in the beginning. I was 16 and recovering from a dislocated arm from gymnastics. While my tumbling days were over the desire to play hadn't died. Some of my first instructors were powerhouses that could do all these wild and wonderful arm balances and handstands. They would break down the postures for us and then demonstrate what seemed nearly impossible. I was hooked and have been playing around in the art for the past 12 year. It took me several years before I was finally able to get my hip off the back arm in side crow. There was a point when I even concluded that my body just doesn't work like that and it's not going to happen. Then magically one day I went into the pose and my weight was not evenly distributed, or so I thought because I was only finding the support on one arm. Then I plopped down onto both arms and realized..... oh you just did it!!! So I came out of the posture and setup again to go into side crow, but changing my drishti to the side looking out past my toes verses the ground as I had always been doing in the past. I played around with my stability, distribution of weight and gaze. There were several failed attempts, but finally found that happy spot to float on just one arm. Voila! The posture had advanced. My practice is always changing and evolving. Sometimes I use both arms for support in side crow and sometimes I can find my center with the back hip hovering above the arm. Day 6 of #SpringSymmetry is #straddle in #headstand or #sirsasana . I couldn't say no to another balcony shot 😁👌 (today it was my mom's turn 🎥 ). I find straddle totally comfortable in headstand, but my proprioception is OFF I'm telling you 😅. My mom directed my limbs and when she finally said I was straight I felt like I was doing a twisted headstand 😂. Oh my... .
