Teacher feature: Marlon Powell
Marlon completed his RYT 200 teacher training with Jala Yoga in 2016. A few years before, he found yoga at a local gym. As he was passing by a yoga class that was ending, he heard the yoga teacher say, “Namaste.” The class responded, “Namaste.” That word piqued his interest. He didn’t know what “Namaste” meant then, but it sounded kind, loving, and full of light which is what Marlon is all about. He loves yoga, and after consistently practicing for about a year and a half, he noticed that yoga transformed him in so many ways – his mind, body, and spirit. Today, Marlon teaches yoga so that he can spread love and light in the community. He wants to help others experience the wonderful effects of yoga. Teaching yoga was never his intention, but it became his calling and now his passion. Marlon’s classes are generally fun, active, and vigorous vinyasa-based flows with a focus on balance and breath. Come ready to sweat and leave calm and strengthened.

One of my favourite exercises to train abs is the #SwissBallPike , where you assume a #plank position on a swiss ball, and engaging your abdominals, pull your feet towards your chest until your hips are in line (or as near as you can get) with your shoulders.
But if you're like me and a) love a challenge, b) are working on improving your #PressHandstand , here's a fun way to incorporate both into your #workout ...
〰 Start in the standard plank position on the swiss ball, core and legs tight, hands approximately a hands-length away from the wall. 〰 As you begin to roll up, remember to tuck your head and neck under and keep your core engaged as your feet lift off the ball. If your core and legs remain tight and controlled, the ball will stay put. 😅 〰 I like to vary this exercise up and try alternating between #straddle and press handstands, and coming back down onto the ball in a controlled manner with both legs, and alternating legs. Feel free to mix it up and inject your own creative licence into it. 👌🏼 If anyone gives this a go, would love you to tag me so I can see your progression! ❤️JO

I think like most people that have primarily "yoga Instagrams", I feel uneasy when I post a non-asana photo.
But the coolest thing about yoga is the way it's changed my life outside of my physical practice.
My whole attitude and outlook has changed (in congruence with other spiritual paths I follow). I wake up and I feel light and driven and a state of general peace that is fairly unwavering regardless of what happens that day.
I can also look at pictures like this of myself and think "wow, I look really happy" as opposed to picking apart all the things I don't like about myself.
I'm just curious (especially from a teaching aspect); what has yoga done for you?? 🙏

Still time to book into this Saturday's "Yoga for Runners/Athletes" - on Aug 19th @ 14:30-16:30 - our particular focus is on the Hips'n'Glutes.
Can't promise the bootylicious moves of Bey & Shakira 💃🕺(who knows what's possible?!) but we'll do our best to strengthen & get more limber in these key areas 🏃♀️🏃♂️🙏
