Practicing handstands is keeping me sane while trying to write two essays and manage the stress of it all. When I've been sitting at my desk too long my thinking gets foggy and I'm easily distracted. So I hop off my chair and turn myself upside down. My handstands are short and imperfect but I love practicing them.
Handstands require sharp focus and body awareness. I only manage to hold myself in that sweet spot of balance and control for a few seconds, and I only manage to find that sweet spot about 1 handstand attempt out of every 10 or so attempts. Over time I am able to access more control through my hands use them as accelerators and brakes as I've been learning from @authentic_movements . Just a few minutes of handstand practice energises my body and refreshes my mind so I can return to my essays ready to work.
One of my essays involves designing and critiquing a qualitative femenist research methodology into the felt physical experience of dancing certain styles and how individuals make sense of how their movements are received and perceived by witnesses and the context specific meanings of certain movements within the dance. If anyone has any knowledge or expirience in such areas and fancies helping a girl out, gimme a shout!
