Yoga 101: Warrior I
In Sanskrit: Virabhadrasana 1 or “A”
▪️Begin by standing (in Tadasana) with feet hips’ distance and parallel.
▪️ Root down through your right foot. Press into all four corners.
▪️ Slide your left foot back until your R leg is deeply bent (as far as you can go keeping your hips square forward).
▪️ Your L foot should be at a 45 degree angle. Press into all four corners of that foot as well, being mindful to press the outer knife edge of your foot into the ground. If you can’t do this, prop your back foot up on a folded blanket so that side of your foot still has something to actively press into.
▪️ Lunge deeply into your R leg. Make sure your R knee stays directly above your R ankle. Without moving your foot, imagine sliding it back to engage the muscles on the backside of your leg.
▪️ Keep your pelvis and spine neutral, just as you would standing up straight. Reach tall through the top of your head.
▪️ Raise your arms overhead. Only lift as high as you can, aiming for straight overhead (I have a very tight upper back so I’m still working on that!).
Stretches: shoulders, stomach, psoas, calves, ankles
Strengthens: shoulders, arms, back, thighs/legs 💗
I punched my Monday total Body strength workout IN THE FACE!!!! .
Seriously can't believe how strong I feel after only 1 week of this program. 💪🏽
And the messages keep pouring in from the other beautiful ladies in my group who are feeling the same way!! 🙌🏽 .
I'm not sharing this to brag but hopefully to inspire.
You see, a few months ago when this program was announced, I had decided I would not do it. 🚫
The workouts were too long. 😫
I do 30 minute workouts, I even do 22 minute workouts.
Once in a while you'll find me do a 40 minute workout, but I do not do hour long workouts. EVER!!!🙅🏻
"Who has time for that?!?!"
Is what I said to myself. 🙄 .
But then I started to see the results my friends were having.😱
Friends with newborns, friends with 4 kids & 3 jobs, single moms, friends with physical limitations, and I KNEW I needed to try.🙋🏽 .
What's the worse that could happen???🤷🏽♀️
I would be EXACTLY in the same spot.👊🏽
But in just 7 days, I can already see and feel a difference. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I cannot wait to see where I am 3 weeks from now and even 2 months from today. .

Today was #moodymonday and and i found myself on my yoga mat at @cityoga more emotional than normal. My teacher had a practice with the theme cleansing. She stressed the importance of cleansing the body and mind of toxins and bad energy that exist from many things: gossip, lies, greed, etc. She said that if we believe and entertain the latter that it manifests in our lives but also physically in our muscle tissue. We did a lot of poses.. I massaged myself and showed myself some love. We started and ended class with this wrote. This resonated with me so I give it to you as I finish cleasing. #namaste

Am I the only one who can avoid stretching but somehow still be decently flexible? (#itsagymnastthing )I know I shouldn’t.... one of those things I am working on.
Day 3 of getting back into my groove .. slowly! 30 minutes on the elliptical with no pain 🙈👍🏼🙈👍🏼 I want to do so much more but I am going to take it as slow as a tortoise!!! 🐢

#Day23 focused on legs! They will be sore tomorrow 🙈 Since this week I added push ups to my yoga practise. Because of a shoulder injury I couldn't do them for a couple of months. Now back to basic, starting on my knees and slowly building up🤗

So far, Vishnu has incarnated in the world 9 times... He comes during times of trouble to restore the balance between good & evil, & it is believed he will appear one last time before the world ends (for this cycle anyway... You didn’t think we just get one shot at this did you? 😋) Vishnu’s job is to sustain the universe & upholds it’s laws, & while he’s not busy fighting evil, he rests on his immense serpent called Ananta... Who, when he uncoils, causes time & creation to manifest... When he coils himself back up again, the universe ceases to exist. Ananta translates to endless, eternal, & infinity...
