Reaching the fingers or palms to the ground is often considered a flexibility milestone, a way to measure how bendy we are. When I was a kid, one year in gym class, our teacher made us work, for the whole semester, on touching the floor with the palms and counting to 5 once we were there. I practiced it sooo much and, when the exam day came, I planted the hands down, counted quickly 1,2,3,4 but, before reaching 5, my hips have tilted so far over the heels, that I fell and, literally, rolled over. My whole body ached for days (both from the fall and the effort) but I got an A- (the highest I ever scored in gym class) because the teacher was impressed with my dedication… Years later, when I went to my first yoga class and had to try this, all these memories rushed back and I thought ‘if I couldn't fully do it when I was 12, how could it happen now?’ it turned out consistent practice and dedication goes far… at least 3 foam blocks, maybe more. Stories aside, I also couldn't do a comfortable standing fold so, trust me, it can be achieved. One of the many things that could be said about this pose is that, if you pull the navel in and engage the hip flexors, your hamstrings will feel more at ease to surrender and lengthen. As I mentioned a few days ago, there’s an equilibrium of ‘easiness’ (sukha) and ‘steadiness’ (sthira), so this is not just about ‘dumping’ forward, the more active the whole body is, the more well distributed the work load, hence easier the pose for each group of muscles. Modify and remove the blocks or lean against a wall to assist you straightening the legs/spine. Find the fold that works for you, be consistent and you’ll increase that #flexibility very soon. Ever wish you had your own little yoga buddy that just magically appeared when you needed someone to help you stretch? Well, we all do! It’s okay though, because you (probably) have a chair and that is almost like the same thing! (Almost! ☺️)
Grab a chair and flip it over so that the seat of the chair is facing the floor. If you are bendy you can take a pillow or a few folded blankets and place them on the seat of the chair to make it deeper. Then place your foot on the blankets. Keep both legs firm and actively lift your quads. This will protect your knee joint and keep it from hyper-extending. If you have sensitive knees or knees prone to hyper extension, place a rolled up blanket/towel under your knee. .
Reach over with your fat hand and grab the chair and take the hand closest to the chair and use it to hold up your head. .
Keep the hip furthest from the chair firmly rooted to the ground. Do not allow it to pop up. Then start to turn your chest to the sky. As you do this, do not allow your ribs/belly to pop out. The more you keep them engaged, the more You will isolate the stretchy goodness into your side body that needs it so much! Stay for 3-5 min and then switch sides. .

I've learned a lot these last few months.
Like how I get upset about only adding five pounds to my PR for a lift I know I can do better at -but then be happier than a three year old at Christmas just hitting my PR for a lift that I know is of more difficulty to me.
Lifting weights and being strong takes more work than just the physical grind. It takes a lot of dedication, determination, and several thousand mind fucks and the willpower to overcome those mind fucks to be stronger than you once were.
[Nov 7th] Five weeks ago I hit a Strict Press for four @ 80lb.
[Nov 21st] Two weeks later I fought like hell to hit a Strict Press single @ 85lb -I was mad, disappointed and knew I could've done better.
[Dec 13th] Three weeks later -aka this morning- I hit a Strict Press for three @ 85lb in 3SP+2PP Complex!
Just because one day your body doesn't put out the results you know it could, doesn't mean you've failed or that you're any less stronger than you were yesterday.
Simply, today was just not your day.

A part of you was off and failed to show up even though you physically showed up. "There are countless factors that shape how I am at one specific moment and honestly, it's pretty unpredictable."

When the idea of moving to Australia was first pitched, I remember thinking "ok, if everything goes up in flames and nothing works out, you can always move back" 😂 I was terrified, and here we are over two years later... .
Happy to report, no flames, and not only have I survived & thrived, I've loved every ounce of my experience here. Every single one of my dreams has come true and I owe it all to Hedland and the community of yogis here that have supported me. From teaching gym classes to opening my own studio space, from wino events to weekend retreats, from yogis to friends and even the beginning of my mala project. I have so many memories, moments, and friendships that you cannot put a price on, I can't even find words for them... .
If you get the OPPORTUNITY to do something that terrifies you, DO IT! Because for me it led to the most fulfilling, amazing, magical, and rewarding time of my life. Hedland has given me the opportunity to grow more than I ever knew I could and with that, this is just the beginning of my story and what #TerraFlowYoga will become but THANK YOU to everyone who has rolled out your mat with me, from the very bottom of my heart, I love you and wouldn't be here without you. .
Just with the simple intention last night of raising money for charity via your donations we raised nearly $400 for @therippleproject charities! I cried on the drive home just overwhelmed with happiness that I finally realised I'm doing what I was born to do and that is, make a difference. I simply wanted to be one drop in the ocean that made a ripple and it feels like we're doing that, together! My heart is so full, thank you all for donating, sharing, and wrapping your arms around me last night- I FEEL THE LOVE! .
Although this was my farewell class with you all, I'm still teaching yoga in town until January 10th, please come stretch, flow, and get a goodbye or holiday hug from me 💗❤️

I’ve been taking it easy and working my yin practice lately. I am like 90% vata so yin is really difficult for me. I get the zoomies even if I am completely comfy in a pose.
