Great memories of the tour earlier this year with the amazingly talented Moné Hattori and the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. Here's a clip of the last movement of Shostakovich First Violin Concerto recorded in Tokyo Opera City. #NeilThomson#conductor#tokyo#yomiurinipponsymphonyorchestra#monehattori
Who’s in Japan over the next few weeks? Well, lucky you! The astonishing Moné Hattori (@mone_dsch) will tour the nation with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra 25 April - 2 May. Bag your ticket quick!
An incredible performance of Bruckner 8 took place with Stanislaw Skrowaczewski leading Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Thursday evening. This 92 year old man may have been the oldest person in the house, but he gave a brilliant performance conducting with the ease and energy of a man 30 years younger. He walked slow but proud to the podium soaking up the excitement from the musicians and audience. He transfixed our attention for the next 90 minutes leading us on a journey through Bruckner's mind. The captivated audience stormed with applause after the performance like I have never experienced. After more than four curtain calls with significant time in the wings, he led the concertmaster off stage to signify the end. The audience however stood in protest. I have never seen a Japanese audience give a total standing ovation! After the orchestra had completely exited the stage, Skrowaczewski received two solo curtain calls! I snapped this "illegal" photo of the sold out house during his final solo bow. How truly incredible to witness how music can feed a person's soul with life sustaining power. #Skrowaczewski#yomiurinipponsymphonyorchestra#tokyo#japaneserespect
