Mirror your partner, be present. Arash from Biting School spent time this past weekend with our Power of Dance program, working to empower youth through dance. “It’s been awesome watching these young people come out of their shell week after week. You can see the excitement in their eyes at the start of each workshop as they wait to see what their next dance challenge is.” – Hilary Maxwell, Member Services Coordinator at The Dance Centre.

This week, the secondary school I'm at in the refugee settlement celebrated #internationalyouthday with a debate. The topic "influence of the western culture on African youth" was chosen by the youth. With heated discussions, good arguments and a lot of engagement from the speakers and the audience, this was one of the most interesting and instructive days I've had while being here. #youthday#youthengagement#Uganda#Africa#rhinocamprefugeesettlement
Reminiscing on Katimavik days... What do you as an alumni do still today that was inspired by Katimavik?
Rappelant les joors de Katiimavik. Qu"est-ce vous, anciens participants faites encore qui a ete inspires par Katimavik?
The opioid crisis in British Columbia can’t be denied. In response, the Take Home Naloxone program was created and the Granville Youth Health Centre, the Centre that the Foundry Centres are based off of, had youth that were part of its #InnerCityYouth program, participate in the take home naloxone program.
Those youth who were involved in the Take Home Naloxone program created an incredible and beautiful #art booklet 🎨📖 around their experiences which can be found here: http://towardtheheart.com/assets/naloxone/wakes-you-up_200.pdf
They also were part of creating an instructional video📽 for naloxone take home kits which can be found here: https://player.vimeo.com/video/180116125
The above picture is of two of the youth who were involved showing Minister of Health @jane_philpott their incredible work when she visited the Granville Youth Health Centre.
The above is a quote from a Foundry Centre employee who runs a local youth engagement group- we couldn’t agree more! The more autonomy the young people we work with have, the more meaningful work gets done!
Foundry is currently piloting its #youth#peer#support curriculum👬👭 a curriculum for youth who want to support other youth who are experiencing challenges in their life 🤝 we believe the experiences youth and young adults go through give them expertise and knowledge that only those who have lived it know☝️ The curriculum is designed by youth with lived experience, for and with youth with lived experience- including our youth peer evaluator who will be evaluating the pilot alongside the Foundry evaluation team🙆🏽🏃 #youthday#foundrybc#youthengagement#peersupport#youthpeersupport#evaluation
👉“Nothing about us without us”👈means that you can’t make decisions for the people you’re serving without genuine and direct engagement with them🙅We know that services for youth need youth involvement and engagement and that’s why we’re committed to continuing to engage youth with the work we do🙆🎉✌ #nothingaboutuswithoutus#youthengagement#foundrybc#youthday
Happy #youthday !!! To celebrate🎉 we want to share just some of the ways Foundry has been fortunate enough to have #youth work with us🙆
We’ve had feedback and input from youth from everything to our name, our colors, the look and feel of the centres and upcoming online tools and resources👏 If you’re creating a service for youth you have to hear from them what they want!👊 So incredibly #grateful to all the young people who have worked with us!👐 #youthday#foundrybc#design#engagement#youthengagement
