Christmas is coming which for many means... gifts!!! Go check out our new blog posts (Link in bio) on how to reduce waste while gift giving, with a special treat for the HKers!!! Don’t forget to subscribe to support us and to keep updated on what we are doing!
My little zero waste package that I got today 😀 I'm so happy!! I'm gonna revolutionalize my dishwashing! On the picture: wooden dishwashing brush and wooden glass washing brush, beeswax and biocotton food wrappers, some cotton bags as presents for family members (it can be decorated to personalize) and my very first shampoo bar! I'm soo excited!! In the background there is my recently read book Better than before by Gretchen Rubin and YES, indeed ☺ #zerowaste#zerowastehome#beeswaxwraps#woodenbrush#betterthanbefore#zerowastepresents#christmasiscoming#shampoobar
Why yes that is an enormous pile of bamboo toothbrushes 😁 Further to my last post on zero waste presents, we're giving everyone in the family a bamboo toothbrush as part of a Christmas stocking 🎄♻🎁 My partner was worried a toothbrush was too weird, and I was worried an environmental one was too preachy, so we're pairing the toothbrushes up with bars of Divine chocolate 🍫 (Divine is fair trade & comes in recyclable packaging) to give people an excuse to clean their teeth 😉😁 , 'wrapped' in a pair of ethically made Christmas socks (possibly with a tiny orange for added Christmas-ness). We wanted to get small gifts for all the family, plus any extended family who we will be seeing over the festive period. We thought socks + chocolate + toothbrush was funny, practical and useful 🎁
I'm not sure everyone will use the toothbrushes because I know people can be particular about toothbrushes. But it's always handy to have an emergency toothbrush, and it may inspire people to switch, so we thought it was worth a try.
Most of the toothbrushes are the Environmental Toothbrush, which my partner & I both use, and seem to be the most common in the UK. They come in a cardboard box. I've also got a purple-bristled Humble Brush for a friend who really likes purple (& bamboo toothbrushes). That one has a cellulose wrapper inside a cardboard box.
Anyone else using Christmas as an excuse to gently nudge family members in the zero waste direction? 🎄♻🌍 I'm wary of buying people unwanted ZW kit, because that's such a waste of resources, and I also don't want to come across as preachy.
But I saw a unicorn lunch bag that one of my sisters will 💙 and that inspired me to do a 'reusable lunch' theme for presents for my siblings. These gifts aren't plastic free, but their use should save a lot of plastic in the future. Hopefully they will use them (& my sisters still live at home, so if they don't I know my mum will 😉). I bought each sibling a The Wrapper sandwich wrap in a design I know they'll love, from re-wrap it. Then one sis is having the lunch bag, my bro is getting a tea infuser with some loose tea (not pictured), and for my other sister I've got her a fruit infuser waste bottle and I'll buy some lemons to go with it. She drinks flavoured bottled water, so I'm hoping this will save a huge amount of water and money, and should be much healthier too. (I am getting too preachy now, right? 🙊) #zerowaste#zerowasteuk#zerowastelifestyle#zerowastefamily#zerowastehome#goingzerowaste#reducewaste#reduceplastic#reuse#sustainableliving#zerowastepresents#zerowastechristmas
I had a great time today finding some not gifts and I can't help but post them.😁 disclaimer...First, I want you all to know it's not easy to decide who should not get this. There is so much crap not to get and finding the perfect gift is just plain hard. I won't be able to not get everyone I love and admire a gift, please know this is not a reflection of how much I care. Now, sorry for rambling, this gift is not going to @navin_r_johnson and @garcimel because i know people in their circle of friends would get seriously injured. Happy holidays. ✨ #zerowastepresents
I'm excited to start my holiday non gift tradition. It's thoughtful and economical. This is the first gift I've decided to not get for my lake county native @angelina_maria_rodrigues and the queen of advocacy for #zerowastepresents#thoughtfulnongifts
