Speed is a natural by product of learning something well.
You cannot short cut how the brain works. It needs time to carve new neural pathways.
Slow, correct repetition over an extended period of time.
That's the only way it works.
The brain is an amazing instrument if we fall in line with how it works.

This tom melody is based off of a 7/16 rhythmic cycle that is repeated 5 times (35/16). This is a very common way of assembling rhythms in Middle Eastern and Northern Indian (Hindustani) traditions. I put a samba pattern beneath it to make it feel a bit more normalized...that morphs in to a dotted eighth kick pattern and then to 8th notes...back to a samba.
Older clip I came across while working.
And yes, I'm still in the studio working. Lots of student reviews to get out. It's legal to be a drum nerd on a Monday night ;^)
Whatever you do, be you.
You have a unique pocket. An original style.
Bring it to the table. We need more original voices.
Fear holds so many back with this.
Fear of judgement. Of not being "good enough". Of not sounding "hip". Or whatever.
Focus on your game so much, make so much noise, rattle so many cages with your style that people can't ignore what your doing.
You'll never get there focusing on someone else though.
Ever need a sizzle cymbal but didn't want to drop the change to buy one? #drumhack
Or, maybe the gig calls for one on the spot and you have to improvise.
Here's a quick drum hack that will turn any cymbal in to a sizzle cymbal.
The tighter the tape is attached to the cymbal, the less sizzle.
Use smaller change to get a lighter sound.
Tape it on the bottom of the cymbal. This allows the coin to hang down rather That's sit on the cymbal. You also won't run the risk of hitting the coin.
Yes, this works. I've used it countless times. Experiment and see what you come up with.

Setup from a last minute session @milkboystudio with @kelseycorkandtheswigs
Drum gear: Gretsch Renown kick and rack, Ludwig Blue/Olive badge floor, Ludwig Suprahonic snare with Pioneer wires, Zildjian 22 Dark ride, I think an 18 inch A Zildjian, and a set of new beats with a crack in them...and I didn't even notice til later! Best hats I've played, seriously! Only thing I used that was mine was the snare. Some cool vibes from the setup
It’s hard keeping your chops up when living in a place that you can’t play drums in. I’ve tried electric drums and although they were fun, it’s not remotely close to playing the real thing. Luckily @remopercussion came out with these silent stroke heads for acoustic drums and @zildjiancompany came out with these amazing low volume cymbals. I took my smallest Ludwig kit and can now fully play them without worry about making too much noise for any of my neighbours. Try it if u live in a condo or anywhere u can’t make too much noise in #drums#ludwig#dwhardware#remopercussion#zildjian
