A family sits in stunned silence after hearing that Colombia's peace deal had failed to pass by a public vote. People had gathered in Plaza de Bolivar expecting to celebrate - polls showed the vote would pass by a large margin, making the loss shocking as well as disappointing.
Those who voted no argue the deal gives far too much leeway to the FARC, including amnesty and seats in both chambers of Congress. #Colombia#plazadebolivar#plebiscite#bogota#nofilter
After hearing that the Colombian peace deal had failed to pass by public vote, Diego, 18, wept and yelled openly in Plaza de Bolivar, calling for the Colombian people and the FARC to find common ground to end a 52-year war.

Venezuelans cross into Colombia to buy basic goods such as food, medicine and toilet paper as their country's economy continues to crumble, leaving supplies scarce. People travel for hours or days carrying empty suitcases to fill with food to bring home to their families. One border official told me as many as 60,000 people cross through on a busy day, then told me not to ask again. The border is loose and chaotic enough, however, that keeping a precise count does not seem like a top concern. #venezuela#colombia#border#journalism
It doesn't take two to tango for this woman. Every Sunday she comes to Parque de Usaquen in Bogota and dances the tango, salsa and cumbia on her own, moving in the same rectangular shape over and over.
Musicians, jugglers and passersby surround her in the park and long, winding street market. A middle aged woman, she dances during the day and well into the night, seemingly unaware of her surroundings until someone places a few pesos in the hat she has waiting at the front of her stage. She nods and smiles, says a simple "Gracias," and continues on. #bogota#tango#streetperformer#parquedeusaquen
Giana, a 28-year-old sex worker, has been in prostitution at a brothel in Vila Mimosa for five years. Vila Mimosa is Rio's most notorious red light district, and draws both locals and tourists. Giana came to Rio after responding to an ad that promised she would earn high pay working in a market. Instead she was brought here, and now feels she has no way out. Still, her smile and humor reflect a spirit still intact. #riodejaneiro#rio#vilamimosa#nofilter#realrio#journalism#photojournalism
A little girl in the Rocinha favela pokes her head out of the door of her home. She lives in the poorest part of this favela where, though surrounded by tragedy, lack of sanitation and infrastructure, neighbors wave and smile at one another as they pass by.
A young man poses with his gun in Rocinha, the largest favela in Rio de Janeiro. Just 20 minutes from the wealthy #Ipanema and #Copacabana neighborhoods, this favela is home to both businesses and areas of abject poverty without infrastructure or basic sanitation. #riodejaneiro#rio#rocinha#favela
