Alisha Abate presents “A Red Wine Cheers to the Intimacies of Industry” an exhibition being held within a National Trust heritage-listed bluestone building at Pipemakers Park, Maribyrnong.
Following an intensive period of research into the archives of Melbourne’s Living Museum of the West, Abate presents both sculptural and performative responses to the architecture and history of the Maribyrnong area. The exhibition responds to distinct architectural elements, revealing industrial features that form part of the social and cultural histories of the area.

The next StreetWORKS commission in West Footscray is underway! @mike.makatron is on site today and tomorrow working on his amazing design at Buzz Barbers. Mike’s concept includes a classic 1950s vintage American barber’s chair - two of which are still in use at Buzz Barbers and are prized possessions of Aurelio, the barber. The chair sits surrounded by lush, tropical jungle and flying orangutans, referencing the urban jungle and stark contrast between the natural and man-made environments. Mike’s artwork captures a world in which the natural forces contrast sharply with the urbanised world, and focuses on the value of leaving the concrete jungle to reconnect with mother nature.
Stay tuned to see the finished work!
