Today I'll share a little @altaskiarea ❤️ story. Ryan and I met at Alta two seasons ago. We met in the coffee shop at Watson's, hopped on the chairlift, and then we took a few runs together. Ryan used to race on the US ski team. He is an incredible skier. Me? I could confidently make my way down the greens (and pizza wedge the blues). On those first few runs together, I was impressed by how patient he was. He gave me lots of pointers and never made me feel like I was holding him back. Now we are starting our third season together, and there's nothing I enjoy more than skiing with him. I still (obviously) can't go as fast as him, but I can hold my own, and I really appreciate being with someone who constantly challenges me and supports my progress. Bring on the snow ❄️❄️❄️

I've got two new blog posts up this week that answer all of the questions I've gotten in the last year about my Sprinter Van. Things like what I'd change about my layout, what I use for wi-fi, where I camp, what's my solar setup, etc. Lots of good stuff in there, so click the link in my profile to check it out 👆🏼

That beautiful landscape behind me is the Kaiparowits Plateau in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. On Monday, President Trump announced that he is cutting the area in the National Monument by 45%, including this area which is rich in coal deposits (and some of the oldest intact dinosaur bones in the world). This area is also upstream of Lake Powell and the Colorado River which provides drinking water to 40 million people. Whether building the infrastructure that would be needed to mine this area is cost-effective is yet to be seen, but either way this move is to appease the extractive industries that get these politicians elected, sidestepping the democratic process. @realdonaldtrump's announcement doesn't mean this is over. This is going to lawsuit and will likely require Congressional action. I know this is frustrating, but we all need to stay educated and active on these issues. Get on the phone and call your Senators and Reps and tell them that how important these monuments are to you and the $887 billion outdoor economy.

Keep your hands off our public lands! 👐🏼 Today Charlie and I went to a rally at the Utah Capitol Building. President Trump is coming to Salt Lake on Monday and is expected to cut the size of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments in Southern Utah by 85%. An overwhelming majority of Americans oppose this move, including the local Native American tribes who have a much deeper connection to this land than most of us will ever understand. If you are outdoor enthusiast it's your turn to speak up. This land belongs to YOU. Show up. Be a positive voice. Get on social and tell @realdonaldtrump & @senatororrinhatch why these Monuments matter to you.

Why do they matter to me? Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument was my first real taste of Southern Utah and why I decided to move here. Slot canyons, waterfalls, dog-friendly trails, free camping for miles without a soul in sight. It's a damn special place (see my Instagram story). Oh and it contributes to the economy, which is why the Escalante Business Chamber also opposes this.

Don't delay. Monday this comes to a head.

Do you or someone you know have Type 1 Diabetes? My boyfriend Ryan was diagnosed at 25. We hike, ski, and go backpacking together, and I’m continually inspired by his athletic abilities and the fact that he doesn’t let his diabetes hold him back. That said, there are a number precautions we take, especially when we are off-the-grid, to make sure he avoids dangerously low (and high) blood sugar levels.
--
If you have diabetes or you know someone who does, in my latest blog post, I share some of the tips I’ve learned and steps Ryan takes in regards to his diabetes when we are out in the wilderness. These tips have helped me deal with my own fears, and my hope is that they also give those of you with diabetes and your friends the confidence to go hiking and adventuring together.

One of my favorite spots in Nevada, only 30 minutes from the Vegas strip. Awesome kayaking, 3 different hot springs, and beachfront camping on the Colorado River. Click the link in my profile for details on this and 11 other unique Nevada destinations in my latest blog post.

Nevada really surprised me. A week-long solo road trip around the state last year led me to snow-capped mountains, hot springs, unique towns, red desert, and wide open roads. My latest blog post has 12 of my favorite stops to add to your Nevada road trip itinerary.
