"If man wants freedom
why keep birds and animals
in cages?
Truly man is the king of
beasts for his brutality
exceeds them.
We live by the death of
others. We are burial places!
I have since an early age
abjured the use of meat.

"Then I said
goodnight and
tucked you away
inside a place
called Nostalgia,
where you'll
always remain
unspoiled,
somewhere between
my lungs that used
to breath ocean
air, and my belly
that fluttered with
hope..."
-Victoria Erickson ***As many of you may (or may not) know, is that I love collecting vintage items.
Since I started on my Fine Art Photography path, I have really gotten into gathering
old, retro, vintage, call it what you will, clothes. Dresses, nightgowns, blouses,
handbags & hats etc. I always wonder who the ladies were that this clothing belonged
to. Did they get married in this gown or perhaps it was something special they wore
on their wedding night? Maybe this was the nightdress they had on when they gave birth to their first child or maybe they passed away in it... I am sure that 90% percent of these dresses and gowns that I now own and treasure, were the belongings of ladies that no longer wander amongst us. With August being Women's Month in South Africa, I would like to dedicate
this small series of images, "UNFORGOTTEN", in which I have used some of my old garments, to all the great women that we love but are not with us anymore, may it be a Mother, Grandmother, Wife, Aunt, Sister, Daughter, Cousin, Niece or Friend.
RIP.

"It isn't a matter of forgetting.
What one has to learn is how to remember
and yet be free of the past. How to
be there with the dead and yet still
be here, on the spot, with the living."

"I used to think I was the strangest person in the world but then I thought there are so many people in the world, there must be someone just like me who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do. I would imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me, too. Well, I hope that if you are out there and read this and know that, yes, it’s true I’m here, and I’m just as strange as you." -Frida Kahlo

"Grief, I've learned, is really just
love. It's all the love you want to
give but cannot. All of that
unspent love gathers up in the
corners of your eyes, the lump in
your throat, and in that hollow
part of your chest. Grief if just
love with no place to go."

"Grief is tremendous, but love is bigger.
You are grieving because you loved truly.
The beauty in that is greater than the
bitterness of death. Allowing this into your
consciousness will not keep you from
suffering, but it will help you survive the
next day."

The pain stops, there are new people, but the gap never closes..

UNFORGOTTEN Three "The reality is that you
will grieve forever. You
will not 'get over' the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it. You
will heal and you will
rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered.
You will be whole again but you will never be the same.
Nor should you be the same
nor would you want to."
