Something I struggle with is doing *nothing*. If I feel like I need a nap, I will fight it. If I am really not feeling up for a workout, I tend to fight it until I try and stop or until it gets too late. If I want to stay in when everyone is going out, I go back and forth in my head so much before making a decision. I am writing about this because I think it’s a common feeling in this day and age, especially as college students who go go go all the time - if it’s not for classes, it’s for a club we are in. If it’s not for a club we are in, it’s for work. If it’s not for work, it’s for our future. Sprinkle in some self care, meal prep, working out, staying connected socially, relationships, and sleeep and that’s one hell of a time. As a result, sometimes I just want to yell STOP and have some time to just nap or be still for a moment before tackling the never ending to do list. So today that is what I am choosing to do. I wrestled with the idea of taking a nap since this morning and then I was finally like “wait, why am I fighting this so much? I feel like shit and listening to my body is something I value so i am just going to do it. My homework and workout can wait.” And so I did. I felt guilty at first because so much can get done in two hours other than sleeping, but now I feel so much better and will be so much more productive than before. SO, moral of the story is is it is okay to take time for yourself without feeling bad. To slow down and to tune into what your body, mind and soul need. Self care isn’t just eating well and going hard at the gym, it’s resting and doing the things that keep you centered. Made a happy bowl this morning before I could take a pic lol 😋 protein oatmeal has been my go-to recently bc it keeps me full physically + full of balanced energy for a good amount of time, + it's freaking delicious haha. Procrastination at its finest - a healthy, delicious meal 😋🤤. Pictured is: 1 medium Yukon Gold potato made into baked wedges, greens + kumato, + homemade veggie burger which is 1/2c black beans + 1/2 cup meatless crumbles mashed together with a fork + some spices + heated in a pan for 5 minutes on each side on medium. This was exactly what my body wanted today, but it's weird listening to my body sometimes. Last week it was alllll about the fats - nut butter, avocado, tahini, chocolate, you name it (which are so good for the body + hormone health, esp. when PMSing). But this week it's like nah, avo doesn't really sound great even though I would usually put it on top of a burger. Funny how it knows just what it needs, even when we don't quite understand it at the time. There is something about being raw and real and unfinished that is so terrifying. But there is also something about it that is so liberating and cathartic. . . Earlier this week I shared my chaarg story at our Monday event, and before I did i was the most scared I have been ever to talk in front of people, but I am glad I did it. . . Chaarg has served as a crutch, a vessel, and a source of strength for me as I have moved through recovery from an eating disorder over the past 2 years. It has shown me that is it okay to go out and eat with friends and not care about how "clean" or not it is or how many calories are in it, but to care about the memories I'm making and people Im with. It has shown me that exercise and physical activity and pushing myself to *feel good* is so much more rewarding than working out to "earn my food" and see the scale go down or log every single thing into an app. It has shown me that food and fitness can be positive aspects of life if we let them be, not ones that make you feel miserable and tortured. I still have bad days sometimes as anyone who has struggled with something like this would, and I'm not saying that recovering from an eating disorder or anything is as simple as joining a group or changing your mind, but chaarg has helped the bad days be fewer and practicing healthful behaviors easier than had I not had a strong, fun, healthful and balanced group of females to be around, and for that I am forever grateful. If you are struggling with something ED-related or otherwise, I am always here to listen and help you get professional help if you want.
