Thanks @gradschoolstories for encouraging young people to pursue grad studies through the powerful message of story telling and for sharing mine 📚🙏🏽 #Repost @gradschoolstories (@get_repost)
"When I finished my Master's Degree in 2012, it was a struggle to find a decent, secure job. No one should face precarious work situations - no matter what your gender, ethnicity, religion, race or class. As a first year Ph.D. student, I am exploring the current context of precarious employment in Ontario, Canada.
Similiar to navigating the labour market, it can be difficult to navigate grad studies. I am currently the face being behind Scholar Culture, which is an educational and lifestyle blog for grad students. Scholar Culture provides grad students with simple tools and guidance for academic success and a holistic student lifestyle.

I am so excited to finally share the next step of my journey; I will be moving to Ottawa, where I will be pursuing my PhD in Social Work & Political Economy. It’s a bittersweet time but I am so grateful, motivated and ready to examine precarious work in Ontario. To me it is a tragedy that the reality of my generation is facing insecure working conditions, loads of student debt, housing prices that are shocking and therefore keeping us at a standstill in our lives. As someone who has experienced this myself and know many other bright young individuals who are ready to contribute to our economy but are facing barriers, it is my hope that I will be able to learn, critique and contribute research to this situation. And further bring about government and economic support in order for young individuals to move forward with hope and excitement for our futures.⠀
It’s been a roller coaster of a ride to get here, some really low lows and some really high highs, which I expect will only continue. I want to send a big shout out to my insanely supportive family and friends, especially my very, very loving, understanding and encouraging boyfriend @slacroce1 for your presence in my life - can't wait to celebrate with all you tomorrow 🎉
That's my brother and my nephew, in their new(ish) home 🏡 Them and my sister-in-law @b_alyssa1 are welcoming a baby girl into their family in September. I'm feeling like a proud sister and am grateful for my family and our growing extended family. It was a good weekend 💛🐥☀️
