Think American whiskey and Kentucky comes to mind. ・・・
But up until the Whiskey Rebellion of the early 1790's, Pennsylvania was the epicenter of whiskey. ・・・
Most of western PAs inhabitants at the time were European immigrants who came to the land of opportunity with hopes, dreams, and plenty of distilling know how. ・・・
@new_liberty_distillery is reclaiming that time with Kinsey American - a 100% corn whiskey aged in used oak barrels. It's inspired by the legendary PA distillery it's named after. ・・・
No, You May Not Have This on The Rocks ・・・
1½ oz. #Kinsey 10 Year
1½ oz. 🍍-Cinnamon-Vanilla Syrup
½ oz. Lime Juice
Directions: Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker full of ice and shake until chilled. Strain into a coupe and garnish with fresh flowers.

When you consider that an 80 proof bottle of liquor is 60% water, it's clear why the water matters. A lot. ・・・
Since the '70s, there's been a Lindauer family tradition of sipping pure, unsullied H20 directly from a spring in Colorado's Buckhorn Canyon, off of County Road 44. What happened when that tradition extended beyond the immediate family?
After the ravings of a family friend who just happened to be a water aficionado, and an off-hand suggestion from a home-brewing cousin, the wheels began turning for what eventually became @spring44distilling line of vodka, honey vodka, gin, mountain gin, old tom gin and bitter liqueur. ・・・

@twojames (est 2013 in Detroit's Corktown nabe) has a pretty extensive portfolio, including the recently released #doctorbird rum. ・・・
Like many distillers, they started out with vodka, Two James 28 Island. It's named for the # of islands on the Detroit River used as bootlegger hideouts during Prohibition. ・・・

Ever been minding your own business, come across an IG photo, descend down an interweb rabbit hole and reemerge with a random (but immensely satisfying) collection of trivia.... about fernet? It must be an #amaroweek thing. Thanks Mike 😉.
Today's 3 fernet fun facts
-Argentinians consume more #fernet than anyone in the world (they drink 75% of what's produced globally)
-Fernet and Coca Cola is a thing there .....
-And the funnest fact of all: @rhinehall (a daughter & dad distillery est. in 2013 which makes fruit brandies out of Chicago) collaborated with South American restaurant @boleochicago to make a bespoke fernet for their bar. And it's the main component in this cocktail 👆🏽👇🏽, which includes a rooftop view garnish (not pictured).
Fernet Lola Daiquiri
2 oz Fernet Lola
.75 oz House Lime Blend
.75 oz Simple Syrup
Method: Combine ingredients in a shaker, add ice, shake, strain.

Stop us if you've heard this one: an immigration attorney and biotechnologist walk into a bar....and decide to open a craft distillery and name it after Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution. Well actually that's not a joke, it's the true story of our friends at @oneeightd , one of DC's artisanal distilling pioneers. Our fave @sip.ponder.repeat just revealed a new cocktail featuring their Untitled BA Gin #3 (and kiwi syrup 😍). We can't decide if we wanna call it Untitled No. 1-8 or Kiwi Whee. Thoughts?
📸 and 🍸
3oz One Eight D Barrel-Aged Untitled Gin No.3
1 1/4oz Dolin Dry Vermouth
3/4oz Rich Kiwi 🥝 Simple*
1/4oz Fresh squeezed Lime Juice
3 dashes Bitter Truth Jerry Thomas' Own Decanter Bitters ・・・
Stir w/ ice, strain, serve up in chilled glass
・・・ *For the kiwi simple I used @simpleutensils citrus press to extract ca. 1oz kiwi 🥝 juice (1 1/2 large kiwi), then added equal pt superfine cane sugar (I put it in my jigger to measure 1oz) and let simmer until syrup consistency. Strain.

Sutler is an old term for the people who sold provisions to soldiers during wartime, from tents or wagons set up outside army camps. (Provisions including #draaaanks .) Sutlers motivated the troops and fueled revolutions. And that's where @sutlersspiritco (est. 2015), Winston-Salem's first legal distillery in 200+ years, got its name.
Find their gin in the below concoction on the menu @ Jimmy the Bartender in Lexington,NC.

If you have a friend hitting the road anytime soon, ask them to bring back a locally made spirit. (And of course on your next trip, return the favor.) You see, @davidmmor is based in Chicago but a friend hooked him up with some @threewellsdistilling prickly pear spirit from Arizona. And here's what he did with it....looks like $. Winner, winner, liquid dinner.
"It’s Not Easy Being Green | bonita tequila, suze saveur d’autrefois, three wells prickly pear liqueur, sugar snap pea syrup, cucumber, lime, rosemary
I’ve heard in the past that green is highly unattractive to people—that it resembles some sort of grossness; I’d have to disagree. This cocktail is made with a blend of fresh, sugar snap peas mixed with a little cane sugar, cucumber juice, and freshly squeezed lime juice. These farm-fresh components relieve the palate with a refreshing tone, complementing the combination of spirits used. A good friend found this prickly pear spirit in Arizona, offering some exotic balance, and Suze infuses brief notes of gentian throughout the drink. Garnished with a fresh and crisp sprig of rosemary atop with a chilling sphere of ice in the glass."
@heritagedistilling is the answer to several trivia questions. Not only because the Washington state based operation is one of the most awarded distilleries in ADI history. But also, because their CEO/master distiller Justin Stiefel has been making hooch since the late '80s - when he was in the 7th grade. Oh kids.

Detox and retox with a drinkable salad...like this Bloodless Mary. It has carrot and tomato juice. And a peppery nasturtium flower (packed with Vitamins A, C, D in case you were wondering.) Which added the recommended daily requirement of Vitamin Y(assssss). ・・・
