Ginkgo's Legendary Stink☘
Every year, my parents go pick fallen ginkgo seeds (they yield an edible nut meat) from a ginkgo tree. They've invited me in the past, but the smell is so potent & putrid that I've always refused. They used to compete to see who could grab the most seeds, to my chagrin. One year, they came up with at least a couple hundred! It was nuts. Literally. The whole downstairs of the house stunk horribly like vomit, and now I know exactly why. Ginkgo contains a fatty acid called butyric acid, and get this:
"Butyric acid is present in, and is the main distinctive smell of, human vomit. It has an unpleasant smell and acrid taste, with a sweetish aftertaste similar to ether." However, it's just the outer part from female trees, and it doesn't taste bad once cooked.. but it's not my cup of tea. Ginkgo biloba leaf & powder are more my speed, and I use both.
Some Ginkgo History: The ginkgo leaf is the symbol of the Urasenke school of Japanese tea ceremony. The tree is the official tree of the Japanese capital of Tokyo, and the symbol of Tokyo is a ginkgo leaf.
The stinky butyric acid has been used by fishermen as bait, and has been used as a stink bomb by Sea Shepherd Conservation Society to disrupt Japanese whaling crews, as well as by anti-abortion protesters to disrupt abortion clinics.
Lovely! But ginkgo does have real health benefits, particularly in the area of cognitive ability & memory. It helps prevent strokes, mental decline, dementia & Alzheimer's. It has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory & circulatory effects that improve brain function.
What is Bromelain?? .
Bromelain is an anti-inflammatory, protein-digesting enzyme from fresh pineapple (concentrated in the core). Bromelain or pineapple on an empty stomach breaks down protein-based inflammatory compounds, and also relieves sinus inflammation, and seasonal allergies (often combined with the bioflavanoid Quercetin). When taken with food, #bromelain & #pineapple help you digest protein-rich foods.
Bromelain & pineapple can be used for various types of inflammatory conditions such as sprains, strains, tendonitis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, knee pain & ulcerative colitis. Bromelain is available in powder and capsule form, something I'll be working with in the near future.💊 .
Today's smoothie contained strawberries and fresh pineapple slices, one of my favorite fruits... How can you resist using this cute, portable, rechargeable juicer/blender? Perfect for one, but can make small smoothies for two! Most importantly, the sound is mellow, which means my ears can stand it (I have bad sensitivities to various types of external stimuli, aka Sensory Processing Disorder).
Blueberries🍇for Diabetes+Brain/Eye Health
I'm all about blueberries (I'm currently snacking on the best unsweetened dried blueberries, from Brownwood Acres), not just because they're incredibly delicious, but because they're powerful antioxidants with amazing health benefits. !
Blueberries & the leaves improve brain function & signaling, #cognition & #memory , word recall, coordination, #cardiovascular well-being, #circulation , blood sugar levels, cholesterol levels, capillaries & blood vessels, eye health & night vision. They have the ability to reverse age-related mental decline & to reduce symptoms of Alzheimer's!
Blueberries combat oxidative damage, UTI's, circulation-related issues, help prevent cataracts, and stave off similar age-related issues. They protect your body from sugar-related damage, and possibly act like insulin, helping to regenerate damaged beta cells. Though the berries lower and modulate blood sugar, they particularly excel at supporting the other areas of the body negatively affected by #diabetes and blood sugar imbalance. They combat the various side effects of diabetes. For the most specific hypoglycemic effect, drink the leaf tea.
The closely related #bilberry is nearly identical in appearance & use, and there's some crossover with its cousin the cranberry. The darker and brighter the deep blue-purple anthocyanin pigments, the better.
I should also mention 2 other antioxidant super-fruits. Tart cherries have positive effects on chronic pain, inflammation, #arthritis , sleep, and heart health. Pomegranates protect the heart, lower #cholesterol levels, fight #cancer , and increase bone strength.
The 3 Steps to Fight Infections Using Holistic Herbal Medicine:
1) STRENGTHEN OVERALL HEALTH USING IMMUNE-BOOSTING HERBS- echinacea, elderberry, astragalus, ashwagandha, codonopsis, holy basil, licorice, lemon balm, NUTRITIOUS FOOD- Fluids: Tea, broth, clear soup, miso.
Orange Produce & Leafy Greens: winter squash, bell peppers, sweet potatoes, calendula-infused broth.
Healthy Fats: wild salmon, sardines, nuts, seeds.
Vitamin C: Fresh raw fruits & veggies, esp. citrus, strawberries, bell peppers, rosehips.
Pungent Aromatics: Garlic, ginger, onions, horseradish, oregano, thyme.
Medicinal Mushrooms: Reishi, turkey tails, cordyceps, chaga, shiitake, maitake.
Fermented Foods: yogurt, kimchi, kefir, sauerkraut (avoid junk food, sugar & alcohol), AND A GOOD LIFESTYLE- Rest, sleep, reduce stress, wash hands & keep up hygiene to prevent infecting others.
2) IN THE EARLY SIGNS OF INFECTION, BOOST IMMUNE FUNCTION so that it can act more quickly TO FIGHT GERMS & clear away the leftover debris SO YOU FEEL BETTER FASTER.
3) USE HERBS THAT HAVE DIRECT ANTIMICROBIAL (kills germs like viruses, bacteria, fungi) ACTION. Examples: Echinacea, elderberries, sage, yarrow, calendula, myrrh, lemon balm, licorice, bee balm, elecampane, thyme, oregano, goldenseal, holy basil.
Conventional medicine ignores the first two approaches, even though they make such a major difference! Natural antimicrobials may not have the same kick as antibiotic medicine, but they contain a wider range of antimicrobial compounds that make it more difficult for germs to become resistant!
Most viral infections originate from stress, overextending yourself, & not getting enough sleep. If you start to get sick, listen to your body & try to get as much rest & sleep as possible! Pushing through a cold or flu, or rushing back into your hectic routine too quickly puts you at a greater risk of a secondary infection (bacterial infection, sinus infection, bronchitis & pneumonia).
I LOVE PANDAS 🐼🐾
I know a lot of random facts about pandas, and some of them are hilarious.. The first time I saw a panda in real life at the museum in Washington D.C., I screamed in excitement. There was a huge crowd of people, and every single one looked over to see who'd been attacked. I'd even prepared for a week beforehand, by spying on the pandas on the Pandacam online. But nothing could prepare me for their utter awesomeness.
Old panda shoes. They don't fit well, but they made me happy at some point in my life. Sometimes, you gotta just do what makes you happy, even if it means leaving civilization to go live with the pandas forever and ever.💗 ..by the way, did you know pandas can't actually digest bamboo, even though it makes up the majority of their diet? It's true. They poop out bamboo, which is then collected and recycled into notebooks and stationery and such. .
Find a Way: Turn Weakness into Strength 👊
I was recently interviewed by a casting company for People's Inspiring Women search. I just received an email informing me that I'm still being considered. However, the odds are absurdly slim- 10 women out of the whole tri-state area- so I'm very honored to simply be considered. But I expect nothing and will lose nothing in return.
I have given up that useless feeling called disappointment. I had no choice, otherwise it would've simply gobbled me up and swallowed me alive. I was forced to accept and be okay with turning down several amazing, life changing opportunities throughout this struggle with chronic illness. I kept going for my dreams, only to end up crushed in the end.. I can only do what I'm capable of doing right now, and nothing more: #acceptance .
Because I was too sick and exhausted to physically do my mental health volunteering, speaking, and educating, or my chronic pain volunteering, I helped strangers online, from my bed. I've been able to stop 2 suicides, assist troubled relationships, get someone to pull over their car during an anxiety attack, convince people in pain to see a specialist, get several depressed & anxious people to make their first appointment with therapists, help people internationally, support those with illness, and offer hope to those who were grieving, etc.. It's astonishing how much we can still accomplish without physically being everywhere to put out fires!
Embrace your weakness and turn it into a strength. It's possible. Whatever you cannot imagine now can absolutely become your reality. Beauty can be found everywhere if you choose to focus on it. Concentrate on #healing now, and be #patient .
Yumm..My Newest SuperDrink!
Cacao+Cordyceps+Manuka Honey+Vanilla Almond Milk🥛
Cordyceps is a special species of fungus that has strong antioxidant properties. It supports a healthy immune system & balanced inflammatory response, while promoting healthy vascular function. It provides powerful energy & endurance benefits. After the 1992 Olympics, Chinese Athletes attributed their wins to using Cordyceps, which sparked consumer interest throughout the world. Many research studies confirm its effectiveness.
Cacao improves overall heart health, aids in weight management, and reduces cholesterol, blood pressure, plaque & blood sugar. It's loaded with #antioxidants , #magnesium , healthy #polyphenols , and dietary #fiber that promotes regularity. It features naturally occurring #tryptophan , an amino acid associated with improved sleep & relaxation. Tryptophan also serves as a precursor to #serotonin , the 'happy hormone', promoting a more positive mood & optimum well-being.
Manuka Honey (from #KivaHealthFoods ) is one of the most unbelievable natural remedies I've ever come across. It's from New Zealand, and worth every single penny for its powerful health benefits. It's a luxuriously delicious & safe antibiotic that I ate to cure my sinus staph infection, after traditional antibiotics completely failed to do so. For curing skin or internal infections, I recommend using UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) 15+ or UMF 20+. For everyday health & illness prevention, I recommend UMF 5+ or 10+. Do not choose Manuka Honey based on the cheapest price.
Minty Squirrel Bombs 🌱🐿💣 .
There are two big noisy squirrels chillin' in the attic upstairs, and they're totally late on their rent check. At first I asked politely, but they refuse to pay and refuse to leave, despite multiple threats.
So I did what anyone else would do: I made compassionate Minty Squirrel Bombs, using all natural organic herbs and pure essential oils to try to get them to leave, without a war ensuing.
I packed these herbs into empty tea filters: Rosemary, Peppermint, Yarrow & Mint.🌱 I added drops of these camphorous essential oils onto cotton balls: Peppermint, Cajeput & Yarrow.🌿
Then I poured drops of peppermint essential oil directly onto the herbal teabags.
Lastly, I put 2 cotton balls plus a bloated herbal teabag into each colorful organza bag, which I then tied closed (not too tightly, since I'll probably have to open them again to refresh the blend).
Then, BOOM!💣💥 Muahahaha!!! They'll never know what hit 'em! I know, I'm as cruel as they come, but they started it! Not me!
I've never heard of anyone making squirrel bombs before, so fingers crossed this does the trick! Rodents don't like strong, camphorous herbs, so I'm hoping these squirrels go somewhere else to live, play, and not pay rent. 🐿 Bon voyage, suckas!
Listen to Your Body 👂
. 🐶 When you need to rest, allow your body the chance to heal itself, and allow your mind to drift into a world without stress, bruised emotions, and endless decisions. It's okay to say no when you don't feel well, or when you have something important coming up that you need to save your strength for. Who cares what they think? Stay true to yourself, your needs, and your innermost desires.
Learning how to properly listen to your body is one of the most important lessons a human can EVER learn. The value of it will last a lifetime; it can be the difference between living & thriving, or suffering needlessly, while losing sight of your true direction in life. 🙊Be quiet. Be silent. Be still. Breathe. Be patient. Be mindful. Be aware. Understand that your mind & body are a team from beginning to end, connected together on this Earth for a reason. Following the needs of your body will keep you healthier & happier for longer.
Change is good. Don't be pressured by others to remain mediocre, or to push past your limits. Do your own thing, respect your mind & body, be kind to, but firm with those around you, and the right people and opportunities will fall into place. Your purpose in life will become clearer and more easily attainable.
MSM•Glucosamine•Vitamin C 💊 + Advice for Joint/Chronic Pain
This health supplement is excellent for joint pain & cartilage degradation. It decreases pain & inflammation, improves range of movement, and encourages #cartilage#repair .🤸 It helps with conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other types of pain & inflammation, like CFS, fibromyalgia, back/knee pain, etc. 🍊 I added some Vitamin C because it enhances the quality & healing of connective tissue while improving your absorption of other nutrients. .
If you're suffering from joint pain, one of the best things you can do is to regularly practice some form of gentle, low-impact movement such as walking, tai chi, or swimming. 🏊 This stimulates your body to produce joint-lubricating compounds, relieves stiffness, and improves #circulation to the area. This makes it easier for your body to remove inflammatory waste products & bring in the nutrients & compounds needed to gradually repair damage. .
START SLOW! It's not worth injuring yourself over- it won't heal you any faster, and you will SO regret it. Remember to rest & get plenty of sleep during flare-ups, but chronic inactivity quickly accelerates the progression of disease & debility. 😦 An anti-inflammatory diet🍒 & lifestyle are vital components in a holistic therapy plan to feel better more often. 💙 I have faith in you guys! Hang in there, have hope, and we'll get through this together!
