Tracee Ellis Ross makes less than Anthony Anderson on 'black-ish' #FACTS JAN. 18, 2018. Tracee Ellis Ross’ starring role on “black-ish” may be in jeopardy if she doesn’t get a raise.
The 45-year-old #actress reportedly threatened to cut back her appearances on the #ABC#sitcom over a lower salary than co-star #AnthonyAnderson according to the #HollywoodReporter#Ross reportedly plans to make up the difference with appearances on other shows if the salaries aren’t evened out.
Anderson serves as an executive producer on the show as well as his starring role, which could account for some of the difference, a network source told the Hollywood Reporter.
Over the first four seasons of “black-ish,” both Ross and Anderson have been nominated for several Emmys and Golden Globes, but he has never won.
Ross won a Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy or musical TV series in 2017, becoming the first black woman to do so in 35 years.
The conversation about pay gaps arose amid reports that Mark Wahlberg earned 1,500 times more than Michelle Williams for reshoots on “All the Money in the World” after Christopher Plummer replaced Kevin Spacey.
Wahlberg eventually donated his $1.5 million paycheck to Time’s Up, a new initiative that aims to fight sexual harassment and assault in the workplace started by more than 300 Hollywood actresses. William Morris Endeavor, which represents both him and Williams, also donated $500,000. #NINFONETWORK#ENTERTAINMENTNINFO#FOODNINFO#VEHICLENINFO#BLACKISH#BUZZFEED#HUFFPOSTGRAM#CELEBRITIES#NYC#LA#HOLLYWOOD#DIANAROSS#COMEDIAN#OMAGAZINE#OPRAHMAGAZINE#TRACEEELLISROSS#USWEEKLY#VANITYFAIR#DAILYMAIL#BBC#LONDON#ENEWS
WhatsApp officially launches its app for businesses in select markets #FACTS JAN. 18, 2018. #WhatsApp today officially launched its new #WhatsAppBusiness#app in select markets, including #Indonesia#Italy#Mexico#theUK and #theUS ahead of its planned worldwide rollout. The addition of #business profiles and new messaging tools aimed at business customers is part of the company’s broader plan to generate revenue by charging larger enterprises for advanced tools to communicate with customers on the platform now used by over a billion people worldwide.
The #WhatsAppBusinessapp is the initial entry point in this market.
Aimed at smaller businesses, the free app – #Android only for now – helps companies better connect with their customers and establish an official presence on WhatsApp’s service. Essentially, it’s the WhatsApp version of a Facebook Page.
The company had previously announced the app’s arrival, and begun verifying business accounts as part of its WhatsApp Business pilot program back in September 2017. Verified accounts were given a green checkmark as a means of demonstrating their authenticity.
With the new WhatsApp Business app arriving today, small companies can set up their WhatsApp Business profiles by filling out information like a business description, email, address and website.
WhatsApp says people will know when they’re talking to a business because these accounts will be listed as “Business Accounts.” Over time, some of these will become “Confirmed Accounts,” after WhatsApp verifies the account phone number it registered with matches the business phone number.
Once established on the WhatsApp network, businesses can then use a series of tools provided by the app, like smart messaging tools that offer similar technology as what you’d find today in Facebook Messenger. #NINFONETWORK#ENTERTAINMENTNINFO#FOODNINFO#VEHICLENINFO#BUZZFEED#HUFFPOSTGRAM#NYC#LA#POLITICO#LONDON#DAILYMAIL#TECHCRUNCH#OKMAGAZINE#OMAGAZINE
LeBron James making All-Star picks 'to win'; Stephen Curry may choose all guards #FACTS JAN. 18, 2018. Things are no fun with the #Cavaliers right now, so, even after the Cavaliers beat the #OrlandoMagic Thursday was not a good time to get #LeBronJames rolling on his #AllStar captainship.
James, as the #NBA top vote getter, will make the first pick in the inaugural captains' draft to determine sides for the #AllStarGame next month in #LosAngeles#StephenCurry as the leading vote getter in the West, is the game's other captain and will pick after James.
The #GoldenState Warriors are rolling. They've won 14 straight road games and have the NBA's best record (not to mention the 2017 championship in their back pockets). So Curry whose team was off Thursday, said things like "I may just have to go pick all guards, get the shortest team possible, have some fun with it." After the #Cavs beat the Magic, 104-103, despite blowing a 20-point halftime lead, James said of his All-Star picks "I'm trying to win.
James and Curry, as the top vote getters, choose the teams from the pool of All-Stars. On Thursday the league announced the starters. From the East, it's James, #GiannisAntetokounmpo#KyrieIrving#JoelEmbiid and #DeMarDeRozan From the West, it's Curry #KevinDurant#AnthonyDavis#DeMarcusCousins and #JamesHarden
James and Curry can pick players from either conference, but their first four picks must be starters. The reserves will be announced on Jan. 23 and the rosters on the 25th. There are no plans to televize the draft.
Curry said he hadn't thought about who specifically he might draft, but "it'll be interesting to see, probably after the starters are picked, as the reserves are going and you see how the teams are going and you have to pick certain positions, certain skill sets, to try to round out a solid team or just go crazy with it and come up with something funny, like I said, maybe if I could pick 12 guards, see how that goes." #NINFONETWORK#ENTERTAINMENTNINFO#FOODNINFO#VEHICLENINFO#BUZZFEED#HUFFPOSTGRAM#NYC#GSW#DAILYMAIL#ENEWS#OMAGAZINE
Fried Chicken Documentary 'Holy Bird' Aims to Celebrate the Masters Behind the Dish that Conquered America #FACTS JAN. 18, 2018. American #food conjures images of a different dish for just about everyone. For video producer and editor #DanielThoennessen and probably huge numbers of his fellow Americans—it’s #friedchicken But the seemingly simple dish actually has a complex history, which #Thoennessen is exploring in an upcoming documentary titled #HolyBird
Thoennessen realize Documentaries celebrating chefs began to pop up on Netflix—he points to Chef’s Table and Jiro Dreams of Sushi in particular—chefs who have achieved Michelin stars and restaurant empires, but he didn’t see any documentaries in that genre highlighting the people who have mastered the humble fried chicken.
Thoennessen decided that he wanted to fill this gap in America’s culinary knowledge, In order to tell the story, he had to travel to the south, starting in Gordonsville, Virginia for the Fried Chicken Festival, where he began filming in May 2016. From there, Thoennessen began cold-calling legendary fried chicken restaurants from #DookyChases to #WillyMaesScotchHouse asking if he could interview the cooks.
Thoennessen is still working on finishing Holy Bird; he has plans to travel to #Atlanta#Memphis#Nashville#NewYork#LosAngeles and #NorthCarolina to conduct more interviews before wrapping up the documentary at the end of 2018. The best fried chicken he’s tasted yet might just come from #NicoleTaylorskitchen where she cooked up the dish with lard in a cast iron skillet. But if you’re looking for the best #fried chicken you can find in a restaurant, Thoennessen recommends a classic: #WillieMaes Scotch House.
You can watch clips from Holy Bird on the film's YouTube page and follow the film's progress on Instagram. #NINFONETWORK#FOODNINFO#ENTERTAINMENTNINFO#BUZZFEED#HUFFPOSTGRAM#FOODANDWINE#FOODNETWORK#TASTY#LEFOODING#NYC#LAEATS#TRUECOOKS#OMAGAZINE
Fans flood Rihanna’s Instagram after Embiid named All-Star #FACTS JAN. 18, 2018. #JoelEmbiid no longer needs to put it any more work, work, work, work, work, work.
The #76ers big man was named a starter for the 2018 #AllStar Game, grabbing the final #EasternConference frontcourt sport over #KristapsPorzingis
Being named an All-Star starter is a big deal for Embiid, not just for his #basketball career, but for his love life as well.
Prior to developing into one of the most dominating young big men in the league, Embiid was primarily known for his social media prowess. In addition to trolling fans and reminding everyone to " #trusttheprocess ," Embiid frequently professed his love for popstar #Rihanna .
Despite Embiid's numerous attempts on various social media channels to woo the award-winning #singer his advances were to no avail. Shortly after his Rihanna love tweets ended, Embiid said "a famous" girl he asked out rejected him and told Embiid to "come back when you're a All Star." While Embiid never mentioned Rihanna by name, fans flooded the popstar's Instagram shortly after Embiid was named an All-Star starter Thursday.
Embiid previously asked #KellyRowland a close friend of Rihanna's, to put in a good word for him when the two met at an #ESPN event. The #Sixers star gave a pretty convincing pitch for Rowland to pass along. "I mean, look at myself. I'm 7-2, I'm good looking. Women usually love my accent because I'm from #Cameroon in #Africa And I'm pretty intelligent, too. And I'm funny. I love pretty women. I feel good about myself," Embiid said while Rowland laughed the entire time.
While Rihanna has yet to publicly respond to any of the fans flooding her social media pages hoping for an Embiid-Rihanna power couple, Embiid surprisingly told #TNT he may decide to move on if she comes calling now. "She denied me back then, so why go with her again? I might have to pass that and move on to the next one... Trust the Process," Embiid said. #NINFONETWORK#ENTERTAINMENTNINFO#VEHICLENINFO#FOODNINFO#BUZZFEED#HUFFPOSTGRAM#ENEWS#OMAGZINE#FAMOUS#CELEBRITIES#NYC#KNICKS#LAKERS#GSW
Instagram now shows when users were last active #FACTS JAN. 18, 2018. Instagram is continuing to build out its messaging section with a new feature that’s already found in popular apps like #Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. From the direct messages screen, people you follow or have previously chatted with can now see when you were last using #Instagram
The new “Show Activity Status” option is enabled by default inside of Instagram’s settings. You can choose to toggle it off if you don’t think anyone really needs to be that up-to-date on what you’re doing. But if you disable activity status for yourself, you won’t be able to see that info for anyone else. It’s possible that Instagram is only testing this feature for a certain number of users, but it’s available for several people I’ve asked to check across both #Android and iOS.
To be very clear, your followers cannot see when you were most recently on Instagram. Only people you follow or have previously DM’d will see how many minutes or hours ago you were scrolling through your feed. Some of my #friends simply show as having been “active today,” but on the flip side, it does get specific enough to display “active now” when you’re using the app at that precise moment. Again, if you don’t like people knowing this sort of thing, turn off the feature in settings.
I’m generally fine with apps indicating when you were last active. On Instagram, it makes sense since you might be chatting with businesses or creative professionals and want some idea of how quick they might be in responding. That said, I think a way to opt out should be mandatory — and thankfully Instagram gives you one. To my knowledge, there’s no option to turn off activity status in Facebook Messenger, where friends can always see how recently you’ve been online. Nor can you disable read receipts. Instagram is also guilty of the latter; #DM always show as “seen” once recipients have opened them. #NINFONETWORK#ENTERTAINMENTNINFO#FOODNINFO#VEHICLENINFO#BUZZFEED#HUFFPOSTGRAM#EEEEEATS#ENEWS#OKMAGAZINE#USWEEKLY#PEOPLE#TIMES#HOLLYWOOD#LA#NYC#DAILYMAIL#LONDON#DENVER#SF#VANITYFAIR#VOGUE
Nintendo is making a bunch of weird DIY cardboard toys for the Switch and they’re awesome #FACTS JAN. 18, 2018. Nintendo has long been the quirkiest major #videogame publisher, a company eager to buck industry trends in pursuit of fun. Last year, as competitors at #Sony and #Microsoft continued to turn #consoles into living room PCs, #Nintendo released a comparatively underpowered tablet that blurred the line between portable and home #gaming and turned it into a huge success.
Now, the company plans to follow up the red-hot debut of the #Switch with a new initiative that taps into what Nintendo president #TatsumiKimishima calls “new ways of playing” — and it involves a lot of #cardboard
Yesterday, the company revealed a new initiative dubbed #NintendoLabo which involves DIY cardboard accessories that can transform the Switch’s Joy-Con controllers into everything from a fishing rod to a piano to a full-on robot suit. These accessories are then used to control a variety of mini-games, essentially turning the #Switchtablet into a tiny #arcade The goal of Labo is to get kids involved in playing #games on the Switch in a more hands-on, tactile way.
It’s the kind of experience that seems like it could only come from Nintendo: clever, charming, and completely unexpected. “Labo is unlike anything we’ve done before,” says #NintendoofAmerica president Reggie Fils-Aimé. It could just be the thing to keep the Switch’s momentum going in its second year — but more importantly, it’s a whole lot of fun. #NINFONETWORK#VEHICLENINFO#ENTERTAINMENTNINFO#FOODNINFO#BUZZFEED#HUFFPOSTGRAM#NYC#LA#CES2018#CES#PLAYSTATION#XBOX#MARIOBROS#OMAGAZINE
‘Mariah Carey effect’ causes uptick in demand for tea #FACTS JAN. 15, 2018. New York is seeing an uptick in demand for tea, thanks to recent frigid weather, and what some say is “the #MariahCarey effect.” #NewYorkers and visitors to the city better known for its #coffee culture are scrambling to get warm with #tea after Carey’s New Year’s Eve performance, in which she demanded a cup of #hottea when on stage as promised.
#TheWhitbyHotel has seen a spike in its tea sales for the hotel’s $45 per person, British-style afternoon tea service, with clotted cream and finger sandwiches, washed down with pots of English breakfast tea.
More than 1,000 guests turned out for tea in December, and demand shows no signs of slowing. The hotel has a partnership with the Downtown Abbey Exhibition, a block away, and says the brutal cold has also fueled demand for tea.
#ThePeninsulaHotel is also being inundated with tea drinkers, along with The Pierre, #ThePlaza and #theTajHotel
The Palm Court at the Plaza is renowned for its afternoon high tea. “We’re not sure if we have Mariah to thank for that, but we’ve loved working with her in the past and look forward to welcoming her back for a cup of tea soon,” said The Plaza’s executive chef, #SaniHebaj said.
The Taj has a just-launched “Tiffin Tea,” with homemade sweets and spiced Chai tea. Hebaj says bookings have been strong in January.
The Tea Council of the USA confirmed the uptick in tea-drinking trend and says Carey’s request for hot tea shows even #celebrities love to drink tea, the world’s second-most popular beverage, after water. #NINFONETWORK#FOODNINFO#ENTERTAINMENTNINFO#VEHICLENINFO#BUZZFEED#HUFFPOSTGRAM#HOLLYWOOD#FAMOUS#ENEWS#FOODANDWINE#FOODNETWORK#OMAGAZINE#LEFOODING#TRUECOOKS#EEEEEATS#LAEATS#SFFOODIE#SAEATS
James Cameron speaks out about Eliza Dushku molestation claims #FACTS JAN. 15, 2018. #JamesCameron has spoken out about the alleged #sexualassault of then-12-year-old #actress#ElizaDushku on the set of his 1994 film, “ #TrueLies ” — saying if he had known about it, “there would have been no mercy.” The allegations came over the weekend from the now 37-year-old actress, who says she was molested by one of the movie’s stuntmen. “Obviously, #Eliza is very brave for speaking up and I think all the #women who are speaking up and calling for a reckoning now,” #Cameron said Saturday while speaking at a Television Critics Association event in #California “I think that has been an endemic through human systems, not just #Hollywood but because Hollywood deals with women who are victims 10, 15, 20 years ago who are famous today, so they get to have a louder voice when they come forward,” the #filmmaker explained. “So #bravo to them for doing it. And I am glad Eliza did that.” Cameron added, “But had I known about there would have been no mercy. I have daughters. There really would be no mercy now.” Dushku went public with her allegations on Saturday in a lengthy Facebook post. The stuntman that she accused, #JoelKramer 60, has denied the claims. “This is all vile lies,” he told Us Weekly. “I never molested this young woman, ever. Who in their right mind would do that and then still work with someone another six months or seven months or however long we had left to work together, wouldn’t that be a little weird?” #NINFONETWORK#FOODNINFO#ENTERTAINMENTNINFO#VEHICLENINFO#BUZZFEED#HUFFPOSTGRAM#NYC#CELEBRITIES#ENEWS#USWEEKLY#OKMAGAZINE#PEOPLE#OMAGAZINE#DAILYMAIL#BBC#LONDON
