G'Day Folks - Managed to finish servicing all of the reels & have also gone through & checked lures, trebles, rings etc. Really starting to miss seeing lures engulfed like that pictured below.
- See if you can guess the lure type & where it is from, an extra point if you can name the jig head type and size. -
With all the rain we have had it will be interesting to see how the #fishing pans out in the next few weeks. The fish will still be there so, I am thinking of targeting areas of deep water, working on the fact that fresh water floats on top of the denser saltwater.
What do you reckon?

G'Day Folks - Some people say bad things happen on Friday the 13th, maybe that was true for larry pictured below. But, we certainly had nothing but fun. After securing a couple of flathead for dinner, we stopped for a quick play with a few tuna schools on the way home.
The tuna schools are pushing all the way into the Great Sandy Straits at the moment so they are quite easy to find. They are a bit spooky & are also feeding on tiny white bait.
We found the key to getting within casting range & launching a few lures at them before they dived deep was to ensure you are upwind of them, approach slowly with constant engine revs & then we were shutting off the motor & gliding in for the last few metres.
Lure wise, I was throwing my 'go to' speedster lure, the Austackle King Stik, a 95mm sinking stickbait at 43 grams in pearly white colour & fitted with size 4 Eagle Claw Fishing Lazer Sharp 4x Trebles.
I had this attached to 30lb Platypus Fishing Lines stealth leader with a double uni knot connecting to 15lb #Platypus P8 braid spooled on a #Austackle Verto 4500 spinning reel, mounted on a Austackle 6-10kg Camo Stick rod.
It was a great #fishing session & if your after a few tips on targeting tuna in Fraser Coast waters, you can follow the following link to watch one of my recent #YouTube#videos - https://youtu.be/c82JBMxLm5I

G'Day Folks - With a wet #weekend forecast, I ducked out this morning to secure a fresh feed of fish to tie the family over till the weather brightens up again.
We love a fresh feed of flathead tails & with dinner secured we retreated before the rain arrived. BUT, the reason for this post is that I wanted to introduce you to a new lure which has been working like dynamite for myself.
Take a close look at the photo as it is only small, but deadly.
It is the Baby Viper - S 55 from Yakamito Lures Australia a sinking soft vibe with super sharp trebles (trust me, my fingers have holes in them). The #Yakamito range of lures are exclusive to Compleat Angler stores, if you are on the Fraser Coast you can find them at Camping World & Compleat Angler Maryborough
So, I reckon with all the wet weather forecast this weekend, it is the perfect time to get stuck into some tackle maintenance & to restock those tackle trays.
Make sure you have a few Baby Viper - S 55's in your trays ready to brain a few #flathead when the weather clears.
All the best folks.
G'Day Folks - I love this photo. We are exceptionally lucky to live where we do, Australia is by far the best country on the planet (I am a little biased) & the Fraser Coast is one of the spectacular regions you must visit. 😎
Within 10 to 15mins of the Urangan boat ramp you can land on any number of beautiful, semi isolated, picture perfect beaches along Fraser Island & just forget it all.
Just look at these two boys, my proud daddy moment. All you need is a beach, some sand, a little shade & hey..... let's spend a wee while digging a hole.
Why? Pfft who cares.
On this day we visited McKenzie’s Jetty, it is a great little day trip for the family & there is loads of history in the area. You can read about it on my blog.

All the best.

In this video I test the theory that - where you find one flathead you will find more - I go searching for a gravel patch and fish it using soft plastic lures, I end up catching, cleaning and filleting a nice feed of flathead on the Fraser Coast, Australia.
Well, there are now a few Flathead getting around the Gold Coast with tags, let us know if you find them.
#goldcoastflatheadclassic2017 update - tough times, we have been plagued by a few mechanical / battery issues, one of the challenges of road tripping, and have also been trying some new techniques, learning from some of the top teams here but we obviously need lots more practice! 😂 We literally watched boats not more than casting distance from us, pull in monsters today while we score very little. But, that is the challenge of the Classic!! Luckily we are here for a good time. Our goal tomorrow is quite simple....... that is to, NOT fish angry!! 🎣💥🐟😁 #fishing#saltlife#adventure#boat#camping
Now, let us not talk about how crap our first day pre-fish for the #goldcoastflatheadclassic was, blowing a gale, busier than the Bruce Hwy on the water and getting smashed by swell.
Instead, let us focus on how good this beer is going to taste 😁🍺
Busy packing today, as we are heading off to the Gold Coast Flathead Classic this weekend. 🎣🐟💥😂 Trailer bearings and springs done, motor serviced, everything greased and oiled. Reels spooled and lures packed. BUT during it all I stopped for a bit and thought 🤔 over the amount of support shown, not only from everyone who follows #fishthatsnag on social media but also the people and organisations represented in these photos. It is amazing and without them, none of this would be possible 👍 So here is a big shout out to each and every one of them 😁
We are headed down the highway to fish among some awesome anglers, the amount you learn just from talking to these folks is amazing in itself, some of them are true legends of the industry. We are hoping to have a really good time, learning loads, enjoying #fishing for what it is, not taking things too seriously (although we want to catch something) but realise that without your support we couldn't do it and for that support we are very grateful.
On my website I make it clear, I only promote gear that I actually use. I use it, abuse it, sometimes break it and if it stacks up and I like it, then I promote it. So rest assured folks, the brands represented in these photos are worth a look, all backed by good people who are working hard to provide you with a great product.
All the best folks and here is hoping we find at least one flathead who will let us measure them for the score sheet. 🎣💥🐟😁🎊
Some great fish being caught throughout the Fraser Coast over these school holidays. With less than a week to go until the 2017 Gold Coast Flathead Classic there are no second guesses as to which species I have been chasing.
I am constantly amazed at how shallow flathead will go. I had to drag this one back towards the boat as I was bottoming out in 30cm of water, he must have been in only a few inches closer to shore.
I hope you managed to get out and about over the next few days folks, the weather looks to be really turning it on for us, good luck.

G'Day Folks - Hope a few of you managed to get out on the water before the afternoon wind picked up. With the Gold Coast Flathead Classic just over a week away I have been concentrating hard on #fishing for lizards. I have added a soft vibe from Fraser Coast Fishing Products into my lure selection for flathead. The standard trebles can prove a little light on after a few good fish, so in this picture you can see that I have refitted this deadly lure with a pair of Eagle Claw Fishing , Trokar 4X trebles, they are super tough & sharp.
Occasionally you have a fishing session where you just can not miss, the fish just seem to be waiting to jump in the boat & yesterday afternoon was one of those sessions. I eventually had to leave the fish biting as I had to go & pick the kids up from school, it was a tough decision. 😁😂
During this super hot session, I again targeted a good looking drain on the western side of Fraser Island at low tide. I threw a range of soft plastics with the Austackle 65mm whiptail grubs & Reflexion Swimbaits Australia Junkie Craw landing fish. I also threw Austackle gizmo's, a few hardbodies & of course these vibes. Each lure landed one or more flathead, it was crazy 🎣💥😁
From low tide till about 2 hours of the run in was the red hot bite. Also, remember to check your leader and retie the leader to lure knot when you notice some abrasion. It is easy to forget when you are caught up in a hot bite, but a busted off fish brings you down to earth real quick 😥
So, if you are after a solid feed of lizard tails then I reckon now is the time to get out there amongst them.
Best of luck.
