It's Friday! Time to kick off your shoes and have some fun just like these Woodward's associates did during a hula hoop contest at a staff party on November 4, 1958. | #HBCCorporateCollection #FBF #Woodwards #staffparty #hulahoop #hulahooping #vintagephoto #1950s #1950sfashion

“This Truck Is Powered By Pollution Free Natural Gas, Clean Air Is Everyone’s Concern” | In 1972, Hudson’s Bay Company tried something new. In cooperation with Canadian Western Natural Gas in Alberta and Consumer’s Gas in Ontario, they became the first retail company in Canada to test a new delivery truck, one which ran on clean-burning natural gas instead of regular gasoline. The aim of the test was to study the performance of these converted vehicles and to consider whether it made economic and environmental sense to convert the entire fleet of delivery vehicles. It was estimated that these new delivery vehicles would cut down on harmful exhaust emissions by up to 90 percent. | #HBCCorporateCollection #HudsonsBayCompany #HudsonsBay #HBC #retailhistory #FBF #Didyouknow #DYK #naturalgas #CSR #vintagephoto #1970s

Yvo Samgushak, a ceramist from Rankin Inlet (Kangiqliniq; ᑲᖏᕿᓂᖅ), Nunavut, at work on a new piece, 1966. | "Born in the forties [without speech or hearing], Yvo Samgushak is the resident elder of the Matchbox Gallery's ceramics program. Yvo along with his brother in law Laurent Aksadjuak, were the first instructors in ceramics when the Matchbox created its ceramics program in the late eighties. [...] Samgushak has become preoccupied, artistically speaking, with using his work to document a time that is fast disappearing. He wants the world to remember the times when Inuit were themselves, and used their ingenuity, strength and courage to shape a course for their survival." After reviewing this selection of postcards from the #HBCCorporateCollection, we are feeling inspired to send out some personal mail! 💌 Throughout the 20th century, postcards were popular and affordable souvenirs for individuals visiting one of HBC's many grand department stores located across Canada. While most of the postcards in our collection were sent by visitors to one of the stores shown here (HBC stores in Calgary, Winnipeg, Edmonton, HBC Northern Stores locations, Simpsons, Morgan's, and Zellers), we also have an interesting postcard sent from an HBC associate visiting Paris on a buying trip in 1924. It reads: "Note: I have just selected for the Hudson's Bay Store some lovely gowns, blouses, etc. and feel sure you will be interested in seeding them on my return." | #HudsonsBayCompany #HudsonsBay #HBC #Simpsons #RobertSimpsonCompany #Zellers #retailhistory #postcard #postcards #vintagepostcard #stamps #vintagestamps #mail #Edmonton #Calgary #Winnipeg #Canada150 #collage
