Can you see my hand? This is the top of a cake I made today. I covered it with my very first mirror glaze. Now I want to make mirror glazes for ALL the cakes!!! I'll reveal the entire cake later. There is a surprise in the middle. FYI-I used a mirror glaze recipe from @cakesmyth . He was fabulous on GBBO!! Re pie can be found here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/ultimate_indulgence_90754
My sweet gram is 97 years young. She's become very frail in the last year, and has some memory issues. I'm going to see her tomorrow, and since she hardly eats anything but loves sweets, I'm baking her brownies. I decided to run a swirl of dulce de leche through the batter. I couldn't find any at the stores I went to, so I Googled and then I made my own, something I've never done before. It was SO easy and it turned out amazing! After it cools a bit more, I'll get the brownie batter made and get them in the oven. Fingers crossed this idea turns out. 🤞
This is what I call a happy mail day.... mostly. I received two beautiful bolts of The Good Life from @sterlingquiltco . I also received two awesome kits from @handmadeisheartmade , along with a jelly roll, all The Good Life by @bonniecottonway and @thimbleblossoms . The last package isn't as happy. I received quilt tops, backing and binding. I volunteered to quilt for #quiltsforharvey . I have three in these bags. I hate that there is a need for these, but I'm so happy I can do this very small thing to help. @mel_is_a_swapaholic @fromblankpages . Please go check out the information on their feeds if you'd like to help. You don't have to quilt, you can make blocks, piece tops, donate fabric, batting, binding, etc. ❤️💜💖
Horrible picture because I'm too lazy to go take a good one. But look what arrived today! I've very quickly flipped through the book and it's amazing!! And the Soak in Fig smells incredible! If you don't have this book, go get it! And if you knit and don't have Soak, you're missing out!
Here it is in all its glory! I struggled with taking pictures, I admit. Let me tell you why. Normally, the hubby is the quilt holder while I take a quick pic or two. Since his back surgery 11 days ago, he isn't allowed to bend, twist or stretch. Holding the quilt would have put too much strain on him. I hesitated to lay it on the floor for pictures. While I was quilting this, I was very careful to never let it touch the floor. I thought of it with the same respect as the American flag. So when it came time to photograph it, I didn't really want it on the floor. But, my options were limited, so I made sure the floor was really clean. Most of the time, while quilting this, I admired the fabric, noticed how many fabrics had stars, and how well everything went together. Sometimes, though, I'd let myself just think about the quilt, what it meant, and why it was made. Those are the moments when the tears fell, when I was humbled by the ultimate sacrifice made by not only the police officers who were killed, but by their families who will now have to live without them, simply because their family member/friend felt the call to serve and protect. To have been allowed the privilege of putting this quilt top together and quilting/binding it has been a tremendous honor. I hope with all my heart that the family who receives this quilt will feel the love that went into every single stitch. @craftycop #bluerkblocks
I'm stumped on my Edie sweater. I know there are tons of knitting tutorials on you tube, but I'm not sure what to look for. The part where you CO side seams and the part that follows is confusing to me. Does anyone know what to search for ? Thanks!
And, DONE! I'm much happier after adding the second row of stitching. There is one stitch I'm not happy with but haven't decided if I'm taking it out or not. Time to go find a box so I can mail this tomorrow. @craftycop #bluerkblocks
I'll post better pictures tomorrow but I wanted to show this tonight. I've finished the hand binding and just have to sew the label on. Tomorrow I'll share what I felt while working on this, but it was definitely emotional. Most meaningful quilt I've ever worked on. @craftycop #bluerkblocks
