The main goal and purpose of the backpacking trip this last weekend was to survey butterflies in the backcountry for @adventurescientists
Most pollinator data out there exists close to urban areas so it's pretty neat to be part of the first large scale pollinator study in the backcountry.
This study is taking place not only in Montana, but Arizona, California, Utah, Nevada, and Washington.
Butterflies are good indicators of biodiversity and ecosystem health and who doesn't want a healthy, thriving backcountry environment?!? This was the first trip of at least three in this part of Montana. Very excited to be volunteering again with this organization.
Backpacking for science 🤓
His name was "Hobo" at the shelter but,
it didn't seem quite right.
That name implies he'd never find a home,
never belong anywhere.
So we changed it to Gonzo.
I guess though, in some ways, he's got some "hobo" like qualities:
independent for sure
constantly in a state of change with me being on the road most of the summer...
always in the care of someone other than me during the week
would much rather sleep outside in the wind and rain than in a tent
But I'll tell you what,
He is my home. My gonzo. My boy.
And you know what else? There's a million "hobos" out there. Those shelter dogs that need a place that they can call home.
We kinda raged last weekend and I'm still vibin on it...
staying out til the sun comes up, gettin down to some funk and mostly just feelin the love from so many beautiful people.
It's about those shared experiences...
We're not bad people
We're not dirty, we're not mean
We love everybody but we do as we please
When the weather's fine
We go fishin or go swimmin in the sea(river)
We're always happy
Life's for livin yeah, that's our philosophy 🎶 🎶
