My old Russian teacher would say "Practice doesn't make perfect. Practice makes permanent. Perfect practice makes progress." He spoke of 100% mental engagement, or stepping away so you don't develop bad habits. What do you think?

Italians are the best 🍑 (speaking about plums)! I like doing these simple, little still life paintings. 😊 Using Emojis, tell me what I should paint next. ?

I had this quote on my mirror in my early 20's "Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort." -Franklin D. Roosevelt. 💙 It reminded me why I did art... despite it's frustrations and little indignities. .

Knees... 💞 (I'm actually enjoying this challenge I gave myself to draw/paint more knees). What body part would you like to see me draw more of?

🔼Swipe left to see the still photo of this little color study I painted (in preparation for a large piece).
Question: It's the Fall season here in the States, leaves are changing color... Do you call it "Leaf Peeping Season"? 🍁 Or is that just a term I picked up when living in Vermont? .

Loved getting a little time with my artists friends to talk and paint. 💙 Yeah, I'll paint you even while we're laughing. It won't be perfect, but the marks I make just add to the memories.

Keep your face always toward the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you. #waltwhitman
Can you guess which famous artist I had in mind while painting this?

What should I title it? I painted this yesterday. 2 eggs and an Italian plum-> my favorite fruit this Summer. 🍑 I chose this trio because I liked how similar they were (in size and shape) yet so different! Help me out with finding a title?

Starting at the head and working down is often how I paint. I run out of time sometimes. With this amazing model, I decided to jump down and paint his feet in the last session. 👣 Because I do what I want.

Nothing like painting to make me aware of the passage of time (and the lack there of [time]). Everything changes, evolves... including me. And hopefully for the better.

I'm loving the graceful pose of my model's hands. 💕 Here you can see how I used my initial drawing like a blueprint for my painting, darkening overlaps and lines (different from how I draw if I'm drawing with the end goal being a drawing).

Remember my "knee challenge"? Quite a few posts ago I said I'd draw or paint a knee for every IG comment (and FB "like") I got. I ended up with 42. Thank you! 🙏 I've been chipping away at my list... Here's proof.

"Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter. The sitter is merely the accident, the occasion. It is not he who is revealed by the painter; it is rather the painter who, on the coloured canvas, reveals himself." -Oscar Wilde (The Picture of Dorian Gray)

Painting in Central Park with other artists = fun! 💚 Being kicked out by a bribed park worker for a wedding = not fun. .
Who's down to go painting in Central Park with me next time? We can be bandits of the brush together! .

Edgar Degas said "Art is not what you see, but what you make others see." 🤔 Do you "see" something when you look at this piece? ... Could you tell me?

Alla prima, Italian: meaning at first attempt (also Wet-on-Wet, or Direct Painting), is a technique used mostly in oil painting, in which paint is applied to already wet paint. No preliminary drawing is done.
