We're on opposite sides of the Pacific Ocean now... so hard to believe not long ago we were together here in Northern Peru - sitting by this fire, talking about how crazy it was that the sun was busy rising over Sydney.
β€’
We talked so much about our future on this night. And now we're here - living it, on different sides of the world. It's surreal.
β€’
These little photos help us feel to connected. To each other, despite the fact we're playing catch with the sun. πŸŒ…πŸ’›πŸŒŠ

Do you buy those beautiful things you find along your travels? We certainly did, and have never regretted it.
β€’
At best you will have something that connects you to a moment, a place, a culture. Like these beautiful cushions we bought in Peru... that held our jackets and spare blankets in the van, and propped us up for movie nights, and made us feel like we had a real home. They're full of memories, and now on my new bed which helps connect me back to this beautiful moment.
β€’
At worst you'll give the things you buy to friends, or to charity down the line, and you've still supported a local craftsman, artist or business person.
β€’
So often people seem scared of getting ripped off by locals. But so often, it doesn't happen, or at least not by very much. Especially when you consider how much handmade things actually cost in most 'developed' countries, how you're directly supporting a person/family in who's country you're travelling in, and the memory your potentially creating forever.

Solitude πŸ™Œ.
β€’
A big part of #vanlife for us was the feeling of solitude we got to experience.
β€’
After many years living hectic lives, the freedom to get away from it all and just be still, and quiet, was such a joy. It does something to your brain. It gives you space for new thoughts, and allows you to let go of old ones.
β€’
When you've spent years together, you find you don't always need words. You can easily spend a few hours getting lost looking into the landscape without uttering a word. In total silence. Yet weirdly, you feel more connected than ever.

It's been a massive week. Adjusting to life further from a few inches from @mavikrio99 has been incredibly heart crushing. It's been hard. It's been sad. It's been a lot to process.
β€’
But, I am so incredibly thankful to have so many amazing people in our life. Massive, massive thanks to every single person who has sent a kind word our way. It means more than you can know. To know neither of us are in this alone feels so very heartening.
β€’
Going back to these photos and memories is so healing. It reminds us of the endless horizon, the importance of the journey. The beauty of what's out there.

What's it like to adjust to life after living in a van?
β€’
Well, it's pretty damn hard. You feel overwhelmed by all that stuff you kept in storage and everywhere feels massive. You miss the rituals of making your simple meals, of setting up, packing down, and hand washing your clothes. Time becomes a more serious factor rather than the light of sunrise and sunset. Your day has a firmer agenda. You crave the cosy feeling of crawling into your van, shutting the doors and feeling completely at peace in the tiny space. You miss the changing landscapes and the momentum of driving long hours.
β€’
Every person lives this life differently. For us, this #vanlife trip was always temporary. Our personal circumstances couldn't allow us more time. But it has taught us so much about living simply, and ourselves.
β€’
Our hearts broke a bit when Vanito went to her new owner. But we've realised... this is just the start. Our journey was a taster of a different life and now we know we want more.
β€’
What form that will take is still to be seen. But we are thankful for the perspective our tiny van gave us, the inspiration to be brave, live differently, and chase what fills us up.
β€’
It doesn't matter whether your vanlife journey is one month, full time or forever, chances are it will change you.

Sitting in a corner of the airport balling my eyes out. Cannot believe my love is not with me getting on this plane. Cannot believe I've seen Vanito for the last time. Cannot believe I'm saying goodbye to Lima, Peru, South America [for now].
β€’
There's so much to process. This adventure has been the most amazing thing we've ever done. We laughed, cried, yelled, despaired, and celebrated, explored, and grew together. So much.
β€’
South America has a a magic power, and I'm sure it will pull us back countless times. [We're already planning our next overland adventures].
β€’
Unbelievable that we won't be inches from each other every minute. But we hope the time flies and we are reunited in a blink. Because life is just.... a blessing with this wonderful man by my side. There are no words to express my gratitude, for this trip, for this love, for all the experiences we've shared. πŸ’›πŸšπŸ’›

Lima - it's where our adventure started, and now, where it's ending.
β€’
For years we both dreamed of what it would be like to return together. After 7 years away, Mao didn't know what to expect.
β€’
What we [re] found was so special. We reconnected with amazing family, with the food, with the culture. Lima has both challenged, and embraced us. We feel part of the city now, navigating the insane traffic, going on [shopping/eating] missions in hidden neighbourhoods, walking the streets, and getting shocked when we see the sun.
β€’
But most of all, it just feels like home.
β€’
This chapter of our lives has been incredible. When Lila flies home tomorrow, it'll be with a heavy heart. Not only because Mao won't be coming with [πŸ’”] but because Lima is home, and home is where the heart is, right?

We're all just little specs in the universe hey... πŸ’«βœ¨

[Does anyone have any night photography tips for this little spec? How do you focus your pics? How do you get the best results? I'm using an old Canon 50D with a Sigma 2.8 24-70 and am still working this night time stuff out].

Living the good life, with mates 🚐🚐
β€’
Camping at Cotopaxi, drinking tea, watching the sunset, making a fire, sharing dinner and watching a movie πŸ‘Œ
β€’
Nothing beats these simple joys.
Thanks @danielarojasc18 & Remi for the lovely time! πŸ™ŒI

The craziest thing is none of the places we've visited will ever look or be the same again.
β€’
Each minute is unique, a once in a lifetime experience. Especially at Cotopaxi. We made a little campfire and sat back to watch the clouds move across the volcano. Every second the view in front of us, and the little flames of our fire, changed. The moments we had there can never be recreated.
β€’
For us it's been a powerful reminder to soak up what's in front of you. Because chances are, it'll never be the same again. Which is kinda the beauty of it all.

Happy Father's Day to this amazing man. Here's Dad in his element, by mum's side, in the home that he built on the back of a 70s Dodge pickup. [This photo is circa 1999].
β€’
He dared to bring us up differently. He's a guitarist and supported the family by busking and selling CD's. We traveled in this beautiful home as children, stopping at different festivals and exploring the wild places of Australia. It was a magic time.
β€’
Dad is abundantly kind, good, generous and incredibly handy. He's always willing to help others, and has been an immense source of support in my life. [Damn how we wished Dad was around to help us convert our van!]
β€’
I am so grateful. For the inspiration to live differently, bravely, the love of nature, and the encouragement to just DIY... Dad, you the best.

One of the joys of our van journey through Peru is finding hidden gems like this bay.
β€’
Whether it's to sleep for the night, or like today, just eat a sandwich... the freedom to explore and discover is just magic. πŸšπŸ‡΅πŸ‡ͺπŸ’›
