Views from Mt. Shasta. Day after day, the changing seasons of each month offer unique views over the high country of California. It never ceases to amaze me how Mother Earth can change up her pallette so rapidly. This take of the Trinity Alps is so completely different from just a week ago it's hard to believe it's the same view. So grateful to have the smoke gone and thunderclouds everywhere today. We went from 85 degrees F to 65 degrees high F in less than 3 days. Had my first fire in the woodstove this morning and the cats and I enjoyed it immensely. Temperature clocked at 36 degrees low at 5:30 a.m. this morning. Snow on the mountain tops are real and Mt. Ashland opens in 12 weeks or less for sking. Just wanted to say a big thank you to all of you for your very kind and encouraging words during the worst wildfire summer I have ever experienced. They helped me find my way through to the other side. Hoping all of you above the equator have a wonderful autumn full of beautiful leaves and gorgeous pumpkins and those below, a bright spring with the full promise of a beautiful summer. All my relations.

Heading home down the Siskiyou Pass in N. California. Usually one does not think of Interstate Highways as wild and scenic drives, but I 5 that runs thru N. California, Oregon and Washington definetly defies that notion. Here in the upper part of California, skirting the Oregon border, the Siskiyou Mountains, steep passes, and hairpin curves gets your blood jumping just going to the store. Makes for an exciting adventure.

Cool roads along the upper Klamath River above Copco Dam Lake lead to unusual views of the river. We are about 10 miles south of Oregon here on the old stagecoach road.

"Country roads, take me home, to the place I belong...Mountain Mamma, West Virginia, take me home country roads. I hear her voice in the morning hour, she calls me, the radio reminds me of my home far away. And driving down the road I get the feeling that I should have been home yesterday. Country roads, take me home.." John Denver

Trinity Alps in N. California. This massive alpine range extends from Redding all the way to Shasta Valley. It is as rugged as it looks and many a mountain climber has had to turn back due to extreme difficulty. It is home to a massive..huge female Mountain Lion we call Lady Lion, one of the largest I had ever encountered. Surprisingly, she let Charlie Red Hawk Thom and I get a glimpse of her cubs then backed off far away from us. I attributed that to Red Hawks work as a Native American Medicine Man and Ceremonial Leader of the Karuk Tribe, as well as his many many years of traveling the high country. Even so, I was still shaking in my boots some. In this country, it is advised you make noise while you hike to let the bears and mountain lions know your coming. If you encounter a Mountain Lion, get big. Raise your arms, holler, look and sound scary and try to back off. If you have small children with you, pick them up and hold them until you know that animal is not anywhere around, even carrying them out of the area far away. The very last thing you want to do is run. Don't. It will trigger their instincts to chase you and I promise you cannot out run a bear or a Mountain Lion.

Today..for the first time since June, the temperatures went below 80 degree F. into the 70s. Most of the time it was way over 90 and much of it over 100 degrees. Finally, autumn has come, rain and snow are close and everyone is breathing a sigh of relief. For many of us, our lungs will never be the same, our throats still hurt from the horrible smoke, and eyes still burn. But you just have to be grateful for coming out the other side. Looking forward to snowy mountains and wet fields. Shasta Valley last winter. All my relations.

Locust Trees along the Klamath River. Chinese laborers and gold miners from the 1800s brought these trees to the U. S. due to their high strength. Old fence posts, which you can find almost eveywhere if you scour around, were the main use of these trees. N. California backroads.

Incredible Mt. Shasta of the Cascade Range in N. California. This mountain consists of four overlapping volcanic cones creating a complex shape. Over 14,000 ft. high, the circumference around the base is nearly 70 miles. No photograph in my opinion can ever really show just how enormous this mountain really is. The first time I saw it, I pulled my car off the road and sat mezmerized in complete shock and awe, until a friendly Highway Patrol pulled over and admired it with me before telling me I really needed to move on. SUNRISE this morning over the mountains. What a blessed way to wake up. Tomorrow our autumn comes with much cooler temps and even cold at night in the 30s. Soon snow will be on the mountain tops, the fires will be gone, and this northern country of the Pacific Northwest will have a chance to heal. All my relations.

Huge rocks from several avalances litter the area below the summits on Mt. Shasta. Several years ago many Native American tribes fought a long battle to keep Mt. Shasta from being developed with condos on this same area. Right before the final decision, a huge avalance thundered down the mountain in the exact area these buildings would have been. This great mountain used it's voice to tell the world it too was a sentient being and needed to be respected. All my relations.

Finally, after two months, I could see the Siskiyou Mountains coming down the pass out of Oregon, because the massive smoke from all the fires has begun to clear up. First pic was late this afternoon, second pic is from last week Weds. It's totally crazy in North America right now. Huge earthquake in Mexico over 8 pts. Three hurricanes within two weeks of each other battering the Gulf, East Coast and Carribean, major wildfires in at least 10 states from Montana to California. The smoke from the Pacific Northwest has now reached the East Coast and further following the jet stream. Our Mother Earth is hurting so darn bad, and showing us her hurt. Please give thanks to our home in the cosmos..she needs alot of love these days. All my relations.

Trail from Bunny Flat on Mt. Shasta in N. California. Mr. Shasta is over 14,000 ft. high and is part of the Cascade Range that extends thru Oregon and Washington. Lassen Mt. is the lower mountain of this range sitting about 120 miles south of Mt. Shasta.
