My life completely changed 7 years ago on this very day.  I was 10 minutes into my spin class, when all of a sudden I felt like I was going to faint.  I immediately left, called my husband and asked him to come home.

I felt numb and tingly and totally "off". By the time my husband came home, I could no longer see the numbers on my phone, as they all blurred together.  I also could only see one of his eyes, and that's when I knew something was incredibly wrong. 
__
My husband quickly drove me to the hospital where the nurse was asking me the basic information.  I couldn't answer her.  She asked me for my birthday, and it was like I knew the answer, but I just couldn't retrieve it and tell her. We were in the ER for 12 hours. They ran CAT scans, MRIs, X-rays and at first couldn't find what was wrong.

Finally, they figured out what had happened. 
I had a carotid artery dissection. Yes, this is extremely rare, especially being so young. I had all the symptoms of a stroke, but thanks be to God, I did not have one. 
__
I was in the hospital 5 days on blood thinners and remember physically feeling God holding me up as I was so weak when they would have me walk around the floor to keep moving. 
__
Luckily, I didn't have to have surgery.  It was healing on its own.  I had to be on blood thinners for the next 3 1/2 months. 
__
I was a School Counselor at the time, and was miserable. I was doing the job of 3 people and was extremely stressed. I was not taking care of my health whatsoever. 
__
I took a medical leave from work, which allowed me to heal and also time to reflect, pray and think through what I really wanted to do with my life. 
__
I decided to study nutrition which led me to where I am today!  Although scary, this event turned out to be a blessing to enable me to serve and love women well through my business. 
__
I also hope by sharing my story, it encourages you to always prioritize your health πŸ’— Your precious body, mind & heart can only take so much hustle.

And what triggered me sharing this post was from a fun Instagram challenge with @risingtidesociety and @honeybook! Asking us to share a behind the scenes photo. This is what many of my days look like! Standing on a stool or chair above some food trying to get that shot ☺️ you can also find me providing nutrition coaching to my sweet clients on the other days! πŸ’• I love the balance of both photography and coaching and this is what it means to me to be a part of the creative economy as @risingtidesociety calls it! ✨ #WeAreTheCreativeEconomy

Heartbroken at the events in Charlottesville. I'm truly at a loss for words that people can actually act, believe and think that way. Racism, hatred and favoritism are evil and wrong. End of story. It's NOT okay to treat anyone different or less than for any reason whatsoever. Humility and loving others above ourselves, that is what we are called to. ❀

So true πŸ’— And to add to this, social media also does its fair share of distracting us. Lately there have been so many conversations I've had with women talking about the social media struggle. Whether that's with comparison, distraction of getting things done or losing the opportunity to really soak in the moment and beauty of our surroundings.

When I wrote a recent @glitterguide post on 10 Ways to Make the Most Out of Your Summer, one of my suggestions was to host a phone-free summer dinner party πŸ“΅πŸ½ A fun idea to throw an outdoor dinner party with pretty hanging lights πŸ’‘ good food, maybe a little rosΓ© 🍾 and make it a no-phone-allowed dinner party. If the setup is super cute, you can take a few snaps in the beginning, but then have a place, such as a drawer, where everyone puts their phones so you can really listen and connect with each other, with no distractions ✨

Now, what's this deliciousness you ask?! It's my Cherry Pie Chia Seed Pudding! 
1 cup @malkorganics almond milk 
1/4 heaping cup chia seeds 
1 scoop @vitalproteins collagen peptides
1 cup fresh, pitted cherries blended 
cinnamon 
vanilla 
optional: 1 tsp pure maple syrup or liquid stevia to taste or a touch of raw, local honey. Your choice! 
Directions - mix all together in bowl, cover and put in fridge overnight. Ready for you in the morning!

I recently read that, on average, we have about 70,000 thoughts per day. That’s a lot of thoughts! πŸ’­ It got me thinking, how many of us are having really positive thoughts about ourselves, our lives and our bodies? Or are we having too many self-defeating thoughts?

When it comes to our bodies or being in a bathing suit, I can’t imagine how many thoughts we have flying through our minds. We, sadly, can sometimes be ruthless with ourselves. Which is why I wrote a summer post for @glitterguide on 5 Ways to Feel Your Most Confident In A Bathing Suit πŸ’— I really wanted to hit on the fact that you are absolutely wonderful and so deserving of rocking that bathing suit and embracing and loving every bit of who you are.

One of the tips was: Work through comparison. A friend of mine (@accessoryjane) shared this quote, and I absolutely loved it. As women, it may be hard at times, but I encourage you to really embrace who you are, all of who you are and own it. We miss out so much on life when we are too focused on what others are doing. We think their lives seem perfect, yet we have no idea what they are struggling with or what insecurities they have. Let’s stop comparing and start celebrating ourselves for who we are and others for who they are.

And, if you see a pretty girl in a cute bathing suit, and your first instinct is to feel badly about yourself, try and change that thinking and offer her a compliment. She probably could use it too, and may also be struggling. If it’s not her body, it could be something else going on in her life, and your sweet compliment could make her day πŸ‘―
