Let’s make some noise!
I spend a lot of time thinking about functional core strength, hoping to convince others that a strong core goes beyond strong abs. If we don't fully inhale and completely exhale we have limited core strength. If we never fully let go and release we limit our ability to fully engage. Give yourself time this weekend to let go and find a way to give into gravity. Whether it's a yoga squat which is a great place to breathe and find release of the pelvic floor, or a simple seated position that is more comfortable on your body, just be and breathe. Fully and completely. — @brynnebillingsley
@Brynnebillingsley letting the energy flow.
I’m more than sure this felt amazing, I remember her connecting to the breath to remain engaged while opening further.
Try it out! Let us know what you think or the benefit of it afterwards.
And you already know what I’m about to say! #breathe
Whether you’re new to pilates or feeling up for the challenge Brynne’s class is a great place to learn, practice, mess up, smile and meet some of Brooklyn's coolest practitioners.
“Yes, strength is important. So is stability. We spend a lot of time working this in our Pilates practice. But sometimes it’s just as important to let go. To feel the weight of your body against the floor. To give in to gravity. This sequence, which I’m pretty certain I learned in some capacity many years ago as a young dancer, has been an incredible way for me and my clients to connect to a deeper sense of self while relaxing the nervous system. The connection of breath to movement with the gentle rocking and heart opening stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system response allowing our heart rate to slow down a bit. Who doesn’t need that during the hectic holiday season?” — @brynnebillingsley
Let’s face it.
We live in a world of constant stimulation, interaction and motion. And that isn’t going to change, at least not anytime soon.
What we can we do?
We can develop practices and habits to help create mindfulness and attention.
PIlates upholds the old school term ‘Quality is more important than quantity’. We firmly believe that Pilates and life are not mutually exclusive. Pilates can support us in our everyday.
Being in control of each movement, each part of the process without throwing any part of it away yields the most success. It’s efforts like this that help build your toolbox for mindfulness and success.
Whether it’s Pilates, fitness classes, yoga, challenge yourself to make the most of this life and create presence and focus in your everyday happenings.
Sorry we missed you all yesterday but we have a lovely note from Brynne. “Wishing you all the very best Thanksgiving day with friends and family, and loved ones.
Let’s eat a lot of great food and remember to take a moment to reflect on what you’re most grateful for.
If you’d like to take some time today to sit by yourself, here’s one of my favorite mantras to recite quietly while meditating.
Take a deep breath in, as you exhale think ‘To Give’, and as you inhale think ‘To Receive’. This can be done for just 10 cycles, if you only have a few moments but you will benefit most from at least 15 minutes.” (Can also be done with a partner sitting back to back so that you can feel one another’s breath). Remember that you can carry this into your year to come, your daily life, and share it with those around you.

“What a great week to spend a little extra time reflecting on our lives, where we’ve come from and what we hope to accomplish in the future.
When I was beginning my career as a NYC dancer and learning Pilates fundamentals to push my training I never would have imagined that one day I would be the owner of a NYC Pilates studio.
Crazy how some seemingly minor decisions have huge impacts on our lives. Today, I can honestly say that I could not be happier with my decisions that lead me here. I am forever grateful to all of my wonderful clients and my team of outstanding instructors, past and present, who helped to build this very supportive community.
I look forward to continuing to transform the bodies of many more New Yorkers, one core at a time!”
