Warm days out in the Sun with the dye pot simmering away are so near! β˜€οΈ Now that I've experimented with pigment from so many different types of plant matter I plan on reacquainting myself with my faithful sewing machine. Watch this space for a wardrobe overhaul! πŸ™Œ Has anybody else got their Spring/Summer craft projects planned out too? πŸ’« #bramble #rubisfruticosus #ragandbranch #plants #natureinspired #plantsaremagic #becreative #simplejoys #nature_seeker #doitfortheprocess #inmystudio #livethelittlethings #botanicals #inspiredbynature #onmytable #naturaldye #plantdye #bushcraft #nature #wildflowers #alchemy #forage #gather

I feel full of inspiration following a visit to Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft this morning. Their new exhibition "DYEING NOW: Contemporary Makers Celebrate Ethel Mairet's Legacy" is a live research project which invites craftspeople from around the world to help catalogue every natural dye recipe from Mairet's influential publication. Here are some of the first yellow coloured samples to be sent in, using dyes such as sumach, weld and golden rod...πŸ’› #ditchling #eastsussex #sussex #england #uk #ditchlingmuseum #art #craft #naturaldye #exhibition #live #research #experiment #dyeingnow #plants #natureinspired #plantsaremagic #becreative #simplejoys #nature_seeker #doitfortheprocess #livethelittlethings #botanicals #inspiredbynature #plantdye #bushcraft #nature #wildflowers #alchemy

Also...the results of my solar dyeing with buttercup flowers will be revealed next week. My pre-mordanted fabrics have been soaking for three months already! I'm hoping for yellows. 🌼

It feels strange posting on here after so much time away. I hope you've all had a wonderful and creative Summer and have been as blessed with the weather as we have been here in Sussex! I've been away working in the west of Finland for much of my Summer so unfortunately natural dyeing was put on hold! However, I'm back now and really excited to start experimenting with all of the dyestuffs that Autumn has to offer. First on my list of things to try are elder berries, blackberries, acorns and oak galls. Oak galls I am especially looking forward to seeing the results of, but I must find some first! What are your favourite autumnal dyestuffs? Is there anything you can recommend?

It's good to be back!

Absolutely loving the creations by @kathyhuttonprints. Great to see how others are inspired by the plant life growing around them month-by-month. This makes me want to dig out my drawing pencils...🌿

Using a tiny amount of oak bark I managed to produce a rich blood red dye bath. Here are the results of dyeing on silk! The different hues compliment one another so well. 🌳

Old, dried bramble stem dying results. Can't wait to see what happens when I dye with the fruit later in the year. ☺️ #plants #natureinspired #plantsaremagic #becreative #simplejoys #nature_seeker #doitfortheprocess #inmystudio #livethelittlethings #botanicals #inspiredbynature #onmytable #naturaldye #plantdye #bushcraft #nature #wildflowers #alchemy
Dyeing with nettle 🌿 Silk really draws in the pigment hey?! ...the result. Absolutely loving the golden and maroon colours. It's got me thinking about what to make out of the dyed fabrics. Hmm...

Dyeing with avocado seeds and skins. Not a local dye plant to me but I'm happy to use up its food waste in this way! πŸ’•
