RAIN projects create healthy learning environments for schoolchildren. In schools, water, sanitation and health (WASH) programming provides safe drinking water, improves sanitation facilities and promotes lifelong health and equality for children. Children who are healthy and well-nourished can fully participate in school. Investing in the health of schoolchildren prepares them for a healthy adulthood. When RAIN projects improve access to water and sanitation, communities’ health and development are positively impacted. RAIN’s partnership with International Lifeline Fund in the Apac District of Northern Uganda resulted in 44,928 people with improved safe water access. Apac District children participated in water, sanitation, and health (WASH) programming at their schools and have opportunities to join school health clubs. Better sustainable water access means healthier learning environments for schoolchildren. RAIN programs will empower up to 550,000 women and youth by 2020. Women and girls in the Apac District of northern Uganda have dire health and economic challenges because of poor access to water. More than 2/3 of the burden of collecting water is shouldered by women and girls in Africa. When women have access to water and sanitation, they can focus on productive activities, like a job or taking care of their families. RAIN’s partnership with International Lifeline Fund is constructing and rehabilitating boreholes, establishing Water User Committees, and creating Community Health Clubs. RAIN is helping to meet International Lifeline Fund’s goal to ensure universal and sustainable access to clean water in 680 Apac District communities. @thecocacolaco @lifelinefund @BluePlanetNet #TheCocaColaAfricaFoundation #Uganda #Women #Water #Empower #RAIN

In Cabo Verde, more than 25% of the population has no access to any type of sanitation, and approximately 40% of the population has no access to networked water. RAIN and Millennium Challenge Corporation provided 22,538 Cape Verdeans with water access and nearly 9,000 people with sanitation access. Resident Idolinda explained, “[Before the project] the most critical problem in my locality was access to water. Today thank God, the lack of water is something from the past.” #thecocacolaafricafoundation @thecocacolaco #caboverde #africa #water #women #WASH #sanitation #RAIN #impact #replenish #safewater

RAIN projects create opportunities to economically power women. In the developing world, women spend an average of six hours a day collecting water, time that could be spent improving their quality of life. RAIN helps reduce this time, allowing women to focus on more productive activities that bring economic benefit. #thecocacolaafricafoundation @thecocacolaco #africa #women #safewater #empowerment #RAIN #opportunity #replenish #celebration
In addition to constructing the physical infrastructure necessary for WASH in schools, RAIN and its partners create School Health Clubs to promote positive hygiene practices in children. This WASH programming teaches students lifelong health practices, such as handwashing. Here, students pose at a school in Uganda, where RAIN and @lifelinefund created 10 School Health Clubs in government-run primary schools. #thecocacolaafricafoundation @thecocacolaco #uganda #africa #water #WASH #sanitation #hygiene #RAIN #impact #education #school #opportunity #safe

Together with @helvetas_ch, RAIN helped construct water infrastructure in four schools in Benin. The project also provided three schools with latrines, and promoted hygiene education and construction of vegetable gardens in the schools. 737 school children now have better access to hygiene and sanitation, allowing them to focus more on their schooling and reducing absenteeism. Teachers have reported that they’re pleased with both the increased attendance and increased cleanliness of the schools. #thecocacolaafricafoundation @thecocacolaco #benin #africa #water #WASH #sanitationforall #RAIN #education #impact #opportunity #teachers #school

In Burkina Faso, RAIN partnered with @WaterAid to improve water supply and provide hygiene education to residents of Ouagadougou. The project supported the construction of five community water kiosks, serving over 7,000 people. RAIN also partnered with local utility providers who are on the front lines of providing water and sanitation services to communities. Utilities in developing countries face unique challenges, but partnerships such as RAIN help build capacity and empower providers to sustainably improve WASH supply and services. #thecocacolaafricafoundation @thecocacolaco #water #WASH #safewater #impact #burkinafaso #africa #replenish

RAIN and its partners utilize training and community engagement to ensure that projects will have a lasting impact on safe water access in the targeted area. After installing five community water kiosks in the area of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, RAIN and partner @WaterAid conducted training sessions for local service providers and government officials to help them implement, operate and maintain water service systems. This helps the community maintain improved access to water and sanitation, which results in positive impacts on health and development. #thecocacolaafricafoundation @thecocacolaco #water #communityengagement #WASH #sanitationforall #empowerment #impact #sustainable #hygiene #health #development #burkinafaso #africa
