Sometimes the changes are so gradual you have to look at old photos to see the difference. In 2010, I had high cholesterol, drank excessively on weekends, and didn't really care for the foods I was consuming. Couple that with a sedentary lifestyle and it was a recipe for disaster. Fast forward to 2017. I found AdvoCare and that helped me drop the pounds quickly. I then found a passion for running and then later CrossFit and that has gotten me even further. I recently adopted a vegan diet and now I feel like superman. I set a PR for my 50 mile trail race last weekend. Something my 2010 Self would never thought possible. Hell, my 2010 Self couldn't even run around the block without stopping to walk. I'm living proof that you don't have to get worse as you get older. You can in fact get better, stronger, and faster.

What a way to cap off the most interesting and best year of my life! This year started with an awesome run at the Bandera 100k where I finished under 17 hours in 20 degree weather to earn a lottery spot for a chance to run Western States 100 in 2018. Sadly, I didn't get in. I then headed off to Arizona to compete in the TPK II Endurance Challenge where my partner and I won first place, really thanks to his spiderman rock climbing skills! I took a tough DNF at the Lone Star 100 after about 68 miles. That was a tough one to swallow since I had looked forward to that race since Rob announced it. Thankfully, I followed that up by getting married to my best friend a week later. I took another tough DNF at the Crazy Desert Race when my achilles flared up big time. At that time, I knew my training wasn't where it needed to be, couple that with the fact that we then purchased a CrossFit Gym on March 1st, I withdrew from the remaining races in my Spring schedule (Georgia Death Race and the SISU IRON). For the rest of the year, my trail running took a back seat as we focused on new jobs at NASA and being small business owners. We decided in July to give a plant-based diet a chance. It has been one of the best decisions of my life! Since then, and with minimal trail training, I went on to complete my fastest 100k at Habenero 100, Torchy's 50k ruck with 35 pounds, completed the Bridge Series, the HH12HR overnight Spartan Endurance event, the GORUCK Heavy (25.5 hours and 44 miles rucked), and now this 50 miler at Brazos Bend that was so close to my fastest time from 2014. It's been an amazing year with a few lows but with some amazing highs. It's also been an awesome year representing Trail Racing Over Texas as a TROT Ambassador. I have some very big events already scheduled in 2018 that will require focused training as several of the races will involve climbing mountains. Since going #vegan in July, I've felt #stronger and my #recovery time has been phenomenal. I completed an #ultramarathon in mid August, a #hh12hr in October and a #GORUCK #heavy last weekend.
