Throw everything in space and jump into yourself | My boys and I had a blast at @californiasciencecenter while goofing around and watching an inspiring #imax film based on a true story called Amazon Adventures 🙌 It highlights Henry Bates’ unrelenting passion for making scientific discoveries on evolution. Over the years, my ways of educating the boys evolved from linear learning to holistic knowledge. Focusing on learning the WHAT is only about retaining and regurgitating information. We have Google for that. When we ask WHY and look deeper into learning, we find creative ways to discover new insight and perspective which is the birthplace of progress. My kids and I loved spending quality time together and sometimes living in the moment and fully tapping into joy is the best lesson we can offer our children. The Good China | When was the last time you used your good china? I honestly can't remember the last time. My memories are created on my every-day plates because I deliberately avoid using my fancy blue-box china. I'm afraid of scratching it, breaking it, losing it. Do you feel the same? I wonder how deep fear is programmed into us. Because I know it doesn't stop at the place setting.
Allowing fear to stop us from taking risks is like saving up sex for old age. Going for what you want takes risks but you gotta be willing to get scratched, broken, even lost, because that moment you've been waiting for IS the NOW. Yes it's scary, yes you might shit your pants, but go for it anyway. And if you shit your pants, you'll also find out who your real friends are because they'll be around with some laundry detergent and a washboard. So risk. Soul food | my entire day was usurped by lice as I noticed tiny white specks on my little guy's hair. My immediate thought was "I'm a bad mother for sending him to after-school care where children have lice." This is the voice of MOMMY GUILT, loud and proud. It's judgy, critical, and completely unreasonable. And yet, I allow it to engulf me. So after the lice pro combed and killed all the bugs, I slumped in exhaustion, not because cleaning hair and bed sheets is hard work but because GUILT is a useless emotion that serves no purpose and saps energy. For something as insignificant as lice to impact me as much as it did revealed my subconscious beliefs about motherhood and what it means to be a good mom. If you ever suffer from mommy (or daddy) guilt, here's a quick little tip: get grounded in nature, ingest some fresh air, and gain a new perspective. We have a tendency to give ourselves too little credit for all we do. Know that you have set up your life in a way that works for you. It doesn't matter what it looks like on the outside, it just has to make sense for you and your family. And if something rattles you and makes you question your values, use it as an opportunity to examine what you truly want. The choice is yours and you can course correct anytime if you wish. Don't be "nice" | Weight loss is the number one topic people want to discuss with me. I've been developing meal programs to help people shed pounds but I won't be doing it anymore. What's more important than WHAT you eat is your ABILITY to handle stress and how you process your emotions. Here's a tip for handling stress: don't be nice. Women more than men have a tendency to be "nice" and say "yes" when they actually mean "no". And this contradiction of emotions creates stress in the body. Stress leads to your body holding on to excess weight as a protective mechanism for you to feel safer. Feeling one thing and doing another creates resistance which often leads to emotional eating and weight gain. Saying yes when you mean no isn't being nice at all. It confuses people and they won't get to know what you really want, how you really feel, and who you really are. Your outer world won't change until your inner world shifts. Be congruent with your emotions and actions and watch your body thrive. Shamanic Dance | as I waited for a red light, there were literally HUNDREDS of ravens on my way to a weekend movement-meditation workshop called 5Rhythms (see my stories.) I just learned the founder of 5rhythms, Gabrielle Roth, was called Mama Raven and she took her flight and left this world in 2012. There is no such thing as a coincidence and when I ask for a sign, the Universe usually knocks me upside the head. I came to this workshop because I was at a crossroads with my work. More and more people are approaching me for food and diet consultations but I started my blog and insta account wanting to share my journey of self healing from addiction, co-dependence, fear, loss and heart break while raising two boys. This level of vulnerability makes me want to jump out of my own skin so I've been playing safe and posting more and more food pictures. But my message is beyond tasty healthy food; it's about healing the mind, nourishing the body and embodying the spirit. You can't just heal one without affecting the others because of your depth, and healing doesn't take place on the surface. So my friends, I think it's time I dive deep, get real uncomfortable, and be seen for who I really am - the light, the shadow, the truth.
Of all the healing modalities I've practiced, 5Rhythms is one of the best, most transformative healing art forms for me. It's about unpacking your story through your body and letting go on a cellular level all that which no longer serves you. Flow, clarification, surrender, unification and grace all rolled into one big Wave as meditation in motion.

Pumpkin protein poppers | healthy easy treats that are delicious and good for you! They travel well so pack'em for pre or post yoga or workouts and feel 💪💃🎉 Recipe:
2 cups pumpkin seeds
2 cups almonds
2 cups oats
2 cups organic pumpkin purée
1/3 cup honey
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 cup organic non-sweetened coconut chips or flakes
1 cup toasted sesame seeds * If you eat raw, skip this step: toast pumpkin seeds, almonds and oats in the oven for about 15 mins at 325 degrees Fahrenheit or 165 Celsius; in a large pan, toast the sesame seeds on the stove on low heat until brown but not burnt, about 3-4 mins
* in a food processor, combine pumpkin seeds, almonds and oats and pulse until grainy * add honey, pumpkin purée and maple syrup and mix together by hand ( wear plastic gloves if you want!)
* Roll into 1 tablespoon-size balls then roll in sesame seeds or coconut flakes
* Enjoy!! 😋🌱🌱🌱💕 will stay fresh in the fridge for 2-3 days
