Got some beautiful hibiscus flower pods + mint from @plantitforward at the @urbanharvesthouston farmers market the other week and made this beautifully colored tea. Looking forward to tomorrow’s chilly visit! What are yalls weekend plans?
Today was one of those days where every meal + snack was done either standing up or in my car. Even though I got home late and didn’t have time to cook, @patgreerskitchen buddha bowl saved the day like always. Organic, local when able and freaking delish. Happy, happy.
Shout out to @nourishjuicebarhtx for being my one stop shop for these bomb bowls and my other faves—Pretty sure you supplied my breakfast, lunch and dinner today ❤️ #youdid
Safe to say it’s a warm meal kind of day! Hope everyone is staying cozy and enjoying the white scenery for a bit! Counting down the minutes until my moccasins are back on! What do you guys have planned this weekend? •

REISHI // king of mushrooms •
The reishi mushroom, an edible type of medicinal fungus that has been used for various healing abilities for thousands of years, is a true “superfood.” Also known as Ling Zhi in Chinese, these mushrooms are strongly anti-inflammatory and tied to longevity, better immune function and mental clarity — perhaps that’s why they’ve adopted the nickname “king of mushrooms.” Since the cold weather has rolled in, I have been making more ‘winter lattes’ which means I’ve been experimenting with different adaptogens and the research has been so cool! Quality is key which is why I’m comfortable using @sunpotion Reishi.
Check out yesterday’s post to see how I incorporate it into my ‘winter lattes’
ASHWAGANDHA // queen of adaptogens •
Ashwagandha is one of the most important herbs in Ayurveda, a form of alternative medicine based on Indian principles of natural healing.
It has been used for over 3,000 years to relieve stress, increase energy levels and improve concentration. Not only that but it can help lower blood sugar levels. The hubs and I have been working on lowering our sugar intake and these adaptogen lattes have helped our cravings. •

Over the weekend I got to stop by @st.rochmarket and I wish so badly Houston could develop a concept like this. Imagine all your favorite vendors under one roof—coffee, pastries, healthy fixins, smoothies, empanadas, pho, an oyster bar, rotisserie, an actual bar, small bites and so on. No to mention local artists get so sell their goods there. I walked away with some local jam, kitchen rags and a handmade coffee mug. Color me happy!

PITAYA // move over, oranges!
One of the most beneficial aspects of dragon fruit is its ability to give a serious boost to your body’s defense system. The high level of vitamin C found in dragon fruit is one of the strongest assets to your body’s immune system, and it stimulates the activity of other antioxidants in the body as well. They actively seek out and eliminate free radicals, the dangerous byproducts of cell metabolism, which have been directly linked to potentially fatal conditions like cancer and heart diseases.

STEEL CUT OATS // back off, cold season!
Hello, immune booster. Beta-glucan has been studied for its ability to help neutrophils, “the soldiers of [our] immune system”, navigate to the infected site quickly and destroy germs.
According to one review, beta-glucans have been shown to: “Improve the body’s immune system defense against foreign invaders by enhancing the ability of macrophages, neutrophils, and natural killer cells to respond to and fight a wide range of challenges such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites”. This is certainly one way good nutrition stops you from getting sick.
