When Susie @junk.beaucoup tagged me to share for #RustNeverLiesTuesday my mind immediately thought of this metal top I saved a few weeks back. It was in a junk pile at the flea market, passed over due to the sad decay of rust and time. Luckily I saw past those things and decided to bring it home. With swirling airplanes and a patriotic star on the bottom it just screams post-war to me, but without a maker I'll probably never know. It is marked USA, so it was made to last, even if some child in the past forgot it outside in the rain one day and left it to the elements. Scroll to see the star and the great shape of this fun little toy. It will be part of my 4th of July decorating next year for sure! #treasuresandtrinketstuesday#rustyandcrusty#americanmade#vintagetoys#vintagemetaltoy#vintagetop#metaltop#americana#vintagetoy#therustytypewriter
There are all types of people. Type A, type B, introvert, extrovert etc. Me? I'm a type type 😉. I'm drawn to typography like a moth to a flame. It's part of the reason I started collecting manual typewriters. It's also the reason I have hundreds of books, random papers, cards, stamps, and pieces of old advertisements. This Olivetti Lettera 22 looks a little worse for wear, but it still types like a dream. It weighs under 9 pounds, has a sleek low profile, and was favored by many famous writers in the mid 20th century. Now this slightly battered Italian beauty will help me write letters, cards, and notes! As a type of bonus (seriously I can't help myself) a whole box full of postal stamps with the names of the towns I grew up in! Millersville, Lancaster, Columbia, Bird-in-Hand and more. I couldn't resist a little nostalgia! Are you a type type? Share your type for #happy 😊hoarder before Sunday ends! Bibliophile: a person who collects or has a great love of books. This pretty much sums me up in a nutshell. I was actually a terrible reader in the beginning, requiring extra reading lessons that took place inside the art closet. I tried to read Sheep in a Jeep over and over while constantly being distracted by the giant rolls of colored paper on the shelves. Luckily, around third grade, my reading skills started to turn around and ever since then I refuse to let go of a book. And I mean that literally (<- see what I did there? 🤓). I have many bookcases in my home and two of them exclusively contain books from my youth. Everything from Ramona Quimby to Animorphs, it's all there. Then you have the teen reading, and eventually you'll come upon my college textbooks including titles like Zoology and Ocean Circulation (don't try reading Physiological Ecology, you'll get a headache!). Once I started junking, books became a natural choice. I found they are great for decorating, have fun colorful covers, and sometimes hilarious texts (I'm looking at you Self Knowledge Companion to Know Thyself aka Sex Manual). My favorite books however, are my collection by JRR Tolkien. His stories are timeless, adventurous, even magical despite his dislike of magic. This 1966 full jacket copy of The Hobbit is a personal favorite. I read the story a few times a year and it reminds me to step out of my comfort zone. And to buy more books! Thanks for the tag Dana! Say hello to the #happy 😊hoarder team and share your page turning story before Sunday night! #vintagebooks#tolkien#thehobbit#bookcovers#hubbyphotographer#mybookcollection#oldbooks#antiquebooks#vintagebook#therustytypewriter#readallthebooks#ilovereading#bibliophile#readingislife#bibliophileforlife#gimmeallthebooks
Ask the flea market gods and you shall receive, a million mostly full tubes of professional acrylics! I'm trying to expand my art making to new mediums, and since acrylics just need water, I'm trying them out before (hopefully) diving into oils. I painted my first piece yesterday and this is the palette (yes it's still caked in paint). I used #liquitexbasics , not the #liquitexheavybody pictured here, and mixed all the colors from white, black, and primaries. I almost had more fun mixing the paint than painting the picture! I was thrilled to grab all these paints for $5 and can't wait to use the purples and bright blues. What are you sharing for #magpiemonday ? #acrylicpainting#learningtopaint#vintagepaints#vintagepaintbrush#paintpalette
The evenings here have reached a beautifully cool 60 degrees with low humidity and enjoyable little breezes. This signals two things: 1. The approach of fall, leaves changing, sweaters, campfires, and s'mores. 2. THE BUGS GO AWAY!!! We have had some vengeful mosquitoes this season that severely affected the enjoyment of our fire pit. I refuse to spray though because I've had neighbors in the past do that, and had dead birds turn up 😭. Anywho, who's looking forward to some s'mores?!? This is my #fireking mixing bowl with spout that I scored at an estate sale about a year ago. More than one person tried to talk me into letting them buy it, but I wasn't letting go of her for anything! Now all we need are some chocolates and we can have s'mores galore! Sharing for #FireKingFridays and #frugalfridayfind . Have you shared with #showusthevintage yet? I'm guest hosting this week so don't forget to post before Saturday night! #firekingmixingbowl#firekingbowl#vintagekitchen#whosreadyforfall#allthesmores#vintagefireking#therustytypewriter

This week's #Happy 😊Hoarder theme is travel! I love to travel and can never resist bringing home a souvenir, no matter how trivial. A few years ago I also decided to start collecting vintage pennants from places that my husband and I have traveled to. It started with Washington DC, where we visited the Smithsonian museums early in our relationship. Then I found the Boy Scout Jamboree one and I couldn't resist even though we'd never been to one together. Finally we have the PA Grand Canyon, which we just visited for our 5th wedding anniversary. I think there may still be one or two more that got misplaced during our move last year (most likely caves like Luray and Crystal). These aren't something I come across all the time and some specific locations can cost a pretty penny online, but when they're reasonable I add them to the collection so we can remember the great trips we've had. They hang in the small wall space between our upstairs rooms (seriously, the Boy Scout one is covering a lamp switch) so we can enjoy them daily. On the to-find list are places like Yosemite (where a bear snuffled at our tent at 3am), Lancaster (because we're from there but all I can find are reproductions), and Shenandoah (because we both love fall and Skyline Drive). Have you shared any travel mementos yet? Thanks always to Dana and the hoarder judges! #showusthevintage#vintagepennant#feltpennant#vintagesouvenir#vintagepennants#souvenirpennant#vintagesouvenirs#therustytypewriter
I'm a junque magnet! I'll readily admit it. Weird stuff follows me home all the time. But this is the first time I had a chance for creepy doll heads to jump in my basket. There were arms. There were legs. There were bodies. But I went straight for the heads 😂. They all have such interesting faces, even the one whose eyes have long gone. My favorite is the kewpie with no arms because she has mercury glass bead earrings and a matching necklace. These ladies are just passing through. They'll find new homes soon, as I have a hard time sleeping with all their creepy stares! So glad to have Susie @junk.beaucoup and the junk band back for #itfoundmejunk ! What crazy stuff are you sharing this week? #vintagedolls#vintagedollheads#creepydollhead#vintagedoll#kewpie#vintagekewpie#creepyjunk#dollheads#bisquedoll#celluloiddoll#therustytypewriter
When I was young my grandmother would take my brother and I to the park and teach us to play tennis. We were awful and at the age where we just wanted to hit each other with the balls, but she was insistent. It was good exercise and made us too tired to argue when she dropped us back at home 😂. Badminton has always seemed like miniature tennis to me. When I saw this old set it immediately called to mind those tennis lessons and how much I always secretly loved them. It was only $7. Also there are shuttlecocks. This set still has all the original pieces including the net, shuttlecocks, and rackets. If you look closely you can see that the previous owner wrote her name in pencil on the wooden handles. Thanks for the memories Margie. This week is blowing right past me. A busy work schedule combined with an upped effort to workout regularly 😝 has me feeling like tomorrow can't really be Friday can it?! I didn't want to miss the opportunity to share for #showusthevintage though! This small gold mirror is fresh from the thrift. You can tell because I barely bothered to remove the sticker 😂. It was definitely a snag moment, its thin gold frame was peeking out from behind some framed prints, it needed to be unearthed! I guess it's time to get ready for the weekend now. Yay? 🙄 #timeflies#mccoypottery#vintagepottery#usapottery#vintagemccoy#thriftscorethursday#therustytypewriter
